Required Qualifications:

Current registration with the Colleges & Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CARNA). Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing. Current CPR (BCLS-HCP). Significant experience in an operating room is essential to be successful in this role; as such, a minimum of 3 years’ current operating room experience in a high acuity OR is required. Demonstrated leadership experience is required – for example, as an Assistant Head Nurse, or as a Team Leader – equivalencies may be considered.


Additional Required Qualifications:

Strong organizational and leadership skills and should include a demonstrated ability and comfort with decision making responsibilities, coaching and teaching, and the ability to build confidence in others. Ability to manage in a highly organized and rapidly moving environment. Must be able to work independently and as part of a team. Ability to collaborate within the expectations of an integrated team. Ability to demonstrate communications skills that promote respect and a positive team environment. Demonstrates advanced problem solving skills integrating critical thinking and good judgment. A strong track record in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders is necessary. Effective teamwork, conflict resolution, change and resource management skills are essential. The incumbent should have demonstrated effective interpersonal and written communication skills. Advanced computer skills, including experience in Microsoft Office programs, particularly Outlook, is required.


Preferred Qualifications:

Completion of a Peri-operative nursing course/certificate. Canadian Nursing Association (CNA) Certification in Peri-operative Nursing. Prior nursing experience and familiarity in Ophthalmology and/or Otolaryngology operating rooms, is a strong asset. Consideration will be given to equivalencies in education and experience.
