Unit Clerk - Maternity
Your Opportunity:
Reporting to the Unit Manager, Unit 51 Labor and Delivery, Foothills Medical Centre, the Unit 51 Unit Clerk is required to work under limited supervision, to perform clerical, receptionist, and booking duties for the Labour & Delivery and Triage areas. The Unit Clerk is pivotal in facilitating communication between nursing and other health disciplines, departments, patient and families, and maintains confidentiality of patient information. The position is instrumental in the smooth and efficient operation of the unit and requires a collaborative relationship with a multidisciplinary team to ensure high quality, patient and family centered, safe care.
Description:
As a Unit Clerk, you will be responsible for the efficient flow of communication between health professionals, departments, patients and families while maintaining confidentiality of patient information. You will also be responsible for a variety of administrative tasks which may include reception, greeting and directing visitors, patients and health professionals, maintaining patient records and charts, transcribing and processing physician orders as well as scheduling patient tests and/or treatments. You will also be responsible for performing a range of administrative activities in support of the unit.

Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent. Completion of an accredited Unit Clerk Course or equivalent training program.
Additional Required Qualifications:Demonstrated Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team. Proficient with Connect Care, NetCare, Outlook, Microsoft Word, Excel. Must be able to work confidently with minimal supervision to manage multiple demands of the unit. Organized and able to prioritize in stressful situations. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Demonstrated Emotional Intelligence and ability to manage self. Ability to recognize potential errors, trouble shoot and provide solutions. Ability to work 12 hour shifts, days and nights, weekdays and weekends. Ability to sit for extended periods of time, majority of 12 hour shift. Proficiently able with computer, telephone, intercom system, label makers, photocopiers and fax machine.
Preferred Qualifications:Recent experience on Labour & Delivery (within the last year). Recent Inpatient experience (within the last year). Previous experience in Critical Care/high stress area.
