Unit Clerk
Your Opportunity:
The successful candidate is responsible for performing clerical tasks and managing patient information supporting patient care activities in a fast-paced Ambulatory Care clinics. Support is provided for a variety of clinics in the Ambulatory Care portfolio. The Unit Clerk acts as a central source of information relating to patient activities including patient admissions, Alberta Netcare information, booking appointments, use of connect care to schedule appointments and complete referral work, diagnostic tests and obtaining patient lists. This position requires considerable telephone communication with patients, physician's offices and other members of the health care team. Provides clerical support including payroll entry, filing, typing, and maintaining supplies and referral management.
Description:
As a Unit Clerk, you will be responsible for the efficient flow of communication between health professionals, departments, patients and families while maintaining confidentiality of patient information. You will also be responsible for a variety of administrative tasks which may include reception, greeting and directing visitors, patients and health professionals, maintaining patient records and charts, transcribing and processing physician orders as well as scheduling patient tests and/or treatments. You will also be responsible for performing a range of administrative activities in support of the unit.

Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent. Completion of an accredited Unit Clerk Course or equivalent training program.
Additional Required Qualifications:Unit Clerk certificate (including practicum), medical terminology, computer office training, and current Health Care Provider (HCP) CPR certification through the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada. Minimum two years of recent experience in a clinical setting, preferably in an outpatient/ambulatory care clinic. Extensive experience using Connect Care, including scheduling and complex referral management, as well as proficiency with Alberta Netcare, Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Outlook. Strong knowledge of medical terminology, excellent written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a multidisciplinary team. Proven ability to prioritize competing demands, adapt to changing workloads, solve problems, maintain patient confidentiality, and exercise sound judgment. Demonstrated customer service, conflict resolution, organizational, and interpersonal skills with a professional, courteous, and compassionate approach to caring for patients of all ages and diverse backgrounds. Reliable, detail-oriented, and committed to incorporating the Royal Alexandra Hospital Way into daily practice. Physically able to push, pull, and assist patients in wheelchairs, perform patient portering duties, and complete frequent bending, stooping, walking, and prolonged standing as required.
