Your Opportunity:

Reporting to the manager, under general supervision, the Unit Clerk in the Northern Alberta Program (NAP) will provide a wide variety of clerical and administrative support to patients, families, staff, communities, and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their confidentiality, safety and well-being. The successful candidate will be part of a collaborative multidisciplinary team providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. The Northern Alberta Program supports clients and their support people from a multitude of cultural and socioeconomical backgrounds with infections including HIV and STIs. This is a demanding position due to the volumes and workload. The Unit Clerk requires strong communication, organizational, time management and critical thinking skills. The successful candidate must be able to work both independently and as an effective team member, being flexible to adapt to quickly changing demands and priorities. Tasks include: Responsible for the preparation, maintenance and management of patient appointments; Process referrals for triage and scheduling; Book patient appointments appropriately, balancing provider and patient requests with efficient clinic operations; First point of contact for patients and clinicians attending the clinic; Receives and directs calls and inquiries appropriately and promptly; Data management; Receives, sorts and files documents relevant to clinic care including but not limited to assessment reports, test results, diagnostic imaging reports, clinician notes, Netcare reports, and referral letters.

Description:

As a Unit Clerk, you will be responsible for the efficient flow of communication between health professionals, departments, patients and families while maintaining confidentiality of patient information. You will also be responsible for a variety of administrative tasks which may include reception, greeting and directing visitors, patients and health professionals, maintaining patient records and charts, transcribing and processing physician orders as well as scheduling patient tests and/or treatments. You will also be responsible for performing a range of administrative activities in support of the unit.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent. Completion of an accredited Unit Clerk Course or equivalent training program.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited Unit Clerk Course or equivalent training program which includes medical terminology and computer office training. Must be proficient in the use of Windows, Excel, Outlook, Connect Care EMR, and Microsoft Office products. Connect Care roles and training including Ambulatory Clerk, Scheregistrar & Referrals. Connect Care scheduling experience is required. Health care provider-CPR through Heart and Stroke Foundation is required. Previous recent experience in an Outpatient Ambulatory Care Clinic setting is required. Previous experience with complex referral processes is required. Previous recent NAP experience is required. Must be able to understand and communicate effectively, in writing and verbally, in the English language is required. The ability to problem solve and work on own initiative is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Flexible, organized, able to adapt to changing demands while maintaining patient confidentiality. Works effectively in a team, manages conflict, supports clients with complex mental health needs using trauma informed, non judgmental care. The role includes physical demands such as assisting/transporting patients in wheelchairs, bending, stooping, and standing for extended periods. Excellent customer service skills, handles sensitive conversations, and demonstrates courteous telephone etiquette.
