Your Opportunity:
The High River General Hospital Unit Clerk (UC) works as a member of the health care team, collaborating to deliver holistic, comprehensive care that meets the needs of patients, families & community. The UC is responsible for the efficient flow of communication between health professionals, patients & families while maintaining confidentiality of patient information. The UC is responsible for a variety of tasks including greeting and directing visitors, patients & health professionals, maintaining electronic patient records, patient registration, managing patient appointments, coordinating & booking patient transportation and maintaining downtime resources. Other duties include, but are not limited to, hand hygiene audits, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) coaching, cleaning/ restocking patient rooms, relief scheduling, restocking/reordering/dispersing supplies, updating signage and providing support to leadership team as required. The UC requires the ability to tolerate constant walking, standing, kneeling, bending, reaching, and sustaining posture within a fast-paced unit requiring lifting, pushing, pulling of objects greater than 50lbs. The successful incumbent will demonstrate AHS’s values when working. The UC must have a strong understanding and appreciation of the delivery of care to diverse patients to effectively support the rural team. The UC will demonstrate the ability to adapt quickly to changing and fluctuating workloads, manage time and prioritize effectively. Demonstrated initiative, accountability, and problem-solving skills are essential. A commitment to professional development and promoting a positive work environment is valued. Being a preceptor and/or mentor for students and staff is an expectation.
Description:
As a Unit Clerk, you will be responsible for the efficient flow of communication between health professionals, departments, patients and families while maintaining confidentiality of patient information. You will also be responsible for a variety of administrative tasks which may include reception, greeting and directing visitors, patients and health professionals, maintaining patient records and charts, transcribing and processing physician orders as well as scheduling patient tests and/or treatments. You will also be responsible for performing a range of administrative activities in support of the unit.

Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent. Completion of an accredited Unit Clerk Course or equivalent training program.
Additional Required Qualifications:Effective written and verbal communication skills are required as is a commitment to Patient & Family Centered Care principles and team collaboration. 1-2 years of relevant hospital or clinic experience. Proficient in Connect Care, Netcare, Muse and Microsoft based programs including Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Ability to prioritize in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions while maintaining a calm and pleasant attitude. This Float UC position supports multiple areas at HRGH. In this role, the UC will be available to work in multiple areas as required based on site need and Manager direction. Competency with OR booking as well as Scheduling using Makeshift and Payroll is required.
