Your Opportunity:

The Unit Clerk provides clerical support to staff and physicians on the nursing unit. This includes handling or referring incoming phone calls, greeting and directing visitors and patients. The Unit Clerk manages the information flow between Physicians, Nurses, and the multidisciplinary team and patients. This includes relaying information related to admissions, transfers and discharge of patients, diagnostic tests, medical treatments, medications, and pre- and post-operative treatments as requested. This position also transcribes and processes Doctor's orders including medication orders, laboratory orders, diagnostic imaging orders, other diagnostic studies and treatment orders. The Unit Clerk manages patient records and charts and may prepare and submit health care billings on behalf of Physicians for a variety of procedures, treatments, and services. The Unit Clerk will admit and discharge patients using Connect Care, coordinate and book patient initial and follow assessments. The Unit Clerk will ensure an adequate level of supplies and equipment are available on the unit and submit work orders as required. The Unit Clerk will also be responsible for performing a range of administrative activities in support of the unit. The Unit Clerk may also assist with staff and patient screening and other related duties. The Unit Clerk will complete unit audits as directed. This position is based at West Edmonton Kidney Care.

Description:

As a Unit Clerk, you will be responsible for the efficient flow of communication between health professionals, departments, patients and families while maintaining confidentiality of patient information. You will also be responsible for a variety of administrative tasks which may include reception, greeting and directing visitors, patients and health professionals, maintaining patient records and charts, transcribing and processing physician orders as well as scheduling patient tests and/or treatments. You will also be responsible for performing a range of administrative activities in support of the unit.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent. Completion of an accredited Unit Clerk Course or equivalent training program.

Additional Required Qualifications:

One year Unit Clerk certification with practicum component from a recognized post-secondary institution is required. Medical terminology, computer literacy including Microsoft Office, Excel, Connect Care is required. Exceptional communication, interpersonal and organizational skills are essential. Must be able to read, write and speak English fluently.

Preferred Qualifications:

Preference will be given to AKC candidates with previous Home Peritoneal Dialysis, Home Hemodialysis and/or Hemodialysis experience.
