Your Opportunity:

Make a difference in the lives of children and families by joining the team at Alberta Children’s Hospital Unit 3. Unit 3 is a 27 bed unit accepting patients from birth to 18 years of age. Patient populations on Unit 3 can include general pediatric medicine, neuro surgery, neurology, burns, nephrology, and urology. As a Unit Clerk on Unit 3, you are responsible for the provision of clerical and organizational support to the patient care area. Duties have a significant public relations focus in relation to communication with patients/families/visitors and members of the multidisciplinary team. Confidentiality of patient information is essential. The Unit Clerk participates in a multidisciplinary team and works both in an independent and collaborative manner. You will practice in a way that supports family centered care. Opportunities for professional growth include participation on unit based education/safety committees, motivation committees, and participation in ACH/AHS initiatives. Description:

As a Unit Clerk, you will be responsible for the efficient flow of communication between health professionals, departments, patients and families while maintaining confidentiality of patient information. You will also be responsible for a variety of administrative tasks which may include reception, greeting and directing visitors, patients and health professionals, maintaining patient records and charts, transcribing and processing physician orders as well as scheduling patient tests and/or treatments. You will also be responsible for performing a range of administrative activities in support of the unit.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent. Completion of an accredited Unit Clerk Course or equivalent training program.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Minimum of 1 year experience working as a Unit Clerk in a pediatric acute care setting. Inpatient Pediatric Unit Clerk training and experience. Participation in unit or hospital-based initiatives and committees. Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Connect Care, NetCare, Clinibase and ESP. Previous experience as preceptor for students and providing orientation for new staff. Basic computer skills required. Ability to work under time constraints, within a fast paced changing environment Demonstrated ability to function in highly stressful situations. Exceptional interpersonal communication skills with the ability to adapt communication styles to meet the needs of specific families and team members.

Preferred Qualifications:

Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills. Demonstrated initiative, accountability, time management, and problem-solving ability. Flexible in the work environment and able to set priorities. Excellent telephone manner. Ability to function as an integral member of the interdisciplinary team. Must convey and demonstrate AHS’ five core values.
