Your Opportunity:

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Cardiovascular Intensive Care team on unit 3a7/8 at the Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute. Under limited supervision, the Unit Clerk provides support to the operations of the Intensive Care Unit. You will be responsible for performing clerical, receptionist and booking duties for the unit. Your duties will include performing admission, discharge and transfer functions; answering telephone calls, using the patient call bell system, and monitoring of unit and patient access. As the key point of first contact for the in-patient and outpatient areas, you will play a key role in fostering an effective team environment on the unit. You will be instrumental in facilitating communication between nursing and other health disciplines, departments, patients and families, and in maintaining confidentiality of patient information. You will also be an essential team member when unit emergencies arise and will be responsible for paging of physicians and code teams. You will be major asset to the smooth and efficient operation of the unit. As a Unit Clerk, you will be responsible for the efficient flow of communication between health professionals, departments, patients and families while maintaining confidentiality of patient information. You will also be responsible for a variety of administrative tasks which may include reception, greeting and directing visitors, patients and health professionals, maintaining patient records and charts, as well as scheduling patient tests and/or treatments. Description:

Required Qualifications:

Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent. Completion of an accredited Unit Clerk Course or equivalent training program.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Recent Unit Clerk experience in a hospital setting required, with critical care or acute care setting preferred. Ability to work in a high acuity patient care area. Ability to organize and prioritize work and cope with frequent interruptions, noise and other nearby distractions. Well-developed organizational skills. Demonstrated initiative and independence in fulfilling duties. In addition, the incumbent will be expected to demonstrate proficiency in the following areas: Computer skills in the following applications: Windows, MS Word, Connect Care. Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a focus on Patient and Family Centered Care. Demonstrated ability to solve problems and organize. Preferred Qualifications:

Preference will be given to candidates with 1 or more years of Unit Clerk experience in an ICU or in a similar critical care environment. Preference given to those candidates with AHS payroll experience.
