As part of a Level 1 Trauma Center, the Adult Operative Services portfolio provides surgical access to specialties such as Neurosurgery, OHNS, Urology, General Surgery, Orthopedic Trauma, Plastics, Burns, Spine, iMRI, and Solid Organ Transplant Services. This position is within the Short Stay Surgery Unit, where the Unit Clerk plays a vital role in supporting scheduled adult surgical patients through the peri-operative continuum. As a primary point of contact for patients and families, you will have a direct impact on patient experience. Key Responsibilities: Perform clerical duties including reception, patient registration, coordinating patient flow, scheduling diagnostics, and liaising with the multidisciplinary team. Provide clear, compassionate communication to patients and families in a fast-paced environment. Manage multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy and professionalism. Physical & Role Requirements: This is a highly interactive, patient-facing role that requires strong communication skills and the ability to multitask effectively. The position is physically demanding, involving extensive walking and movement throughout the unit. Candidates must be comfortable working in a dynamic, high-volume setting.
Description:
As a Unit Clerk, you will be responsible for the efficient flow of communication between health professionals, departments, patients and families while maintaining confidentiality of patient information. You will also be responsible for a variety of administrative tasks which may include reception, greeting and directing visitors, patients and health professionals, maintaining patient records and charts, transcribing and processing physician orders as well as scheduling patient tests and/or treatments. You will also be responsible for performing a range of administrative activities in support of the unit.

Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent. Completion of an accredited Unit Clerk Course or equivalent training program.
Additional Required Qualifications:A one-year Unit Clerk certificate (with practicum component) from a recognized post secondary institution is required. Must have successfully completed a recognized course in medical terminology. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Experience with Connect Care Demonstrated competency in Excel and Word required. Accuracy and attention to detail essential Must be able to work early mornings and evenings Physical demands and requirements include prolonged, extensive, or considerable standing/walking, lifting, reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, and crouching.
Preferred Qualifications:Proven interpersonal and written/verbal communication skills. Excellent organizational, time management and interpersonal skills required as well as the ability to work under pressure with minimal supervision. Must be self-motivated and able to set priorities and meet firm deadlines. Ability to work as a team player in a fast-paced environment. Able to recognize and maintain confidential information.
