An exciting opportunity to work in an Inpatient care environment at the Rockyview General Hospital Working under general supervision, the Unit Clerk serves as the first point of contact for the unit. As a Unit Clerk, you will be responsible for ensuring the efficient flow of communication between health professionals, departments, patients, and families while maintaining strict confidentiality of patient information. The Unit Clerk plays a key role in fostering a positive and collaborative team environment by facilitating communication between nursing, other health disciplines, hospital departments, patients, and families. The ability to work collaboratively with team members is essential. A positive attitude and the ability to set a professional tone at the desk are key to supporting both patients and staff. The successful candidate must also have excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills, along with the ability to prioritize effectively in a busy clinical setting. This position performs a variety of general reception/clerical duties. These duties include but are not limited to: Greeting and directing visitors, patients, and healthcare staff. Maintaining patient records and documents; paper and electronic. Performing admission, discharge, and transfer functions in Connect Care. Coordinating activities/appointments with other departments. Coordinating internal and external transportation of patients and equipment. Requisitions services and appointments from other departments. Answering telephone calls, patient call bell system and monitoring patient access. Faxing of information to related departments. Maintaining desk supplies, unit supplies, and patient chart documents. Participating in desk orientation for unit staff, acting as preceptor for unit clerk students.
Description:
As a Unit Clerk, you will be responsible for the efficient flow of communication between health professionals, departments, patients and families while maintaining confidentiality of patient information. You will also be responsible for a variety of administrative tasks which may include reception, greeting and directing visitors, patients and health professionals, maintaining patient records and charts, transcribing and processing physician orders as well as scheduling patient tests and/or treatments. You will also be responsible for performing a range of administrative activities in support of the unit.

Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent. Completion of an accredited Unit Clerk Course or equivalent training program.
Additional Required Qualifications:Successful completion of a recognized Unit Clerk Course required.
Preferred Qualifications:Experience in a Unit Clerk role on an in-patient acute medical or transition unit. Experience in a Unit Clerk role in an ambulatory care setting. Inpatient Connect Care Role. Outpatient Connect Care Role. Previous experience working with geriatric patients and their families (including patients with cognitive impairment and dementia). It’s Your Move or other related safe patient handling training. Proficient in processing systems and with Microsoft programs
