Unit Clerk
Your Opportunity:
Under limited supervision, the Unit Clerk provides support to the operations to the Medical Cardiology unit by performing clerical and reception duties, and booking duties for the unit. Duties include performing admission, discharge and transfer function; answering telephone calls, using the patient call bell system. As the key point of first contact for patients, visitors and AHS staff, you will play a key role in fostering an effective team environment on the unit. You will be instrumental in facilitating communication between nursing and other health disciplines, departments, patients and families, and in maintaining security of patient information. Description:
As a Unit Clerk, you will be responsible for the efficient flow of communication between health professionals, departments, patients and families while maintaining confidentiality of patient information. You will also be responsible for a variety of administrative tasks which may include reception, greeting and directing visitors, patients and health professionals, maintaining patient records and charts, transcribing and processing physician orders as well as scheduling patient tests and/or treatments. You will also be responsible for performing a range of administrative activities in support of the unit.

Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent. Completion of an accredited Unit Clerk Course or equivalent training program.
Additional Required Qualifications:6 months to 1 year (recent within 1 year) experience as a Unit Clerk in an Acute Care in-patient unit. Ability to work in a highly acute and fast paced patient care area. Adapt to frequent interruptions and require strong interpersonal skills. Strong organization skills, with the ability to prioritize work and problem solve. Ability to tolerate constant sitting, walking, standing, kneeling, bending, reaching and sustained posture within a fast-paced unit requiring lifting, pushing, pulling of objects greater than 20 lbs. Proficient in the following computer skills: Connect Care & Microsoft Office. Medical Terminology required.
