Undergraduate Nurse
Your Opportunity:
The University of Alberta Hospital (UAH) is one of Canada’s leading clinical, research and teaching hospitals, treating more than 700,000 patients annually. The Undergraduate Nursing Employee (UNE) position provides an opportunity for a UNE to develop competency in the range and complexity of the RN practice within neurosciences intensive care, high intensity, and stroke observation unit. The UNE is an unregulated member of the interprofessional health care team who provides Family Centered Care with direct supervision of an RN. You will gain valuable nursing experience working alongside skilled staff in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, supporting AHS’ commitment to providing safe, high quality, family centered care. In this role, you may be required to work in multiple areas within the portfolio at the discretion of the Unit Manager/Team Lead. The nursing activities performed, and level of supervision required is determined by legislation, standards of supervision outlined by CRNA, Alberta Health Services and competency of the UNE. Training will include: Level 1 Observation unit/High Intensity Unit orientation.

The nursing activities performed and level of supervision required is determined by legislation, standards of supervision outlined by professional associations, AHS and competency of the UNE. You will be guided by your education, experience and demonstrated skill level to play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Current enrolment in an approved Alberta nursing education program leading to initial entry to practice as a registered nurse or registered psychiatric nurse. Current Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (CPR) certificate. Successful completion of 3rd year of an RN nursing education program and a minimum of 600 hours of clinical practice in an approved RN education program; or currently in the final year of an after-degree RN nursing education program and a minimum of 600 hours of clinical practice in an approved RN education program; or successful completion of 2nd year of an RPN nursing education program and a minimum of 600 hours of clinical practice in an approved RPN education program.
