Tissue Specialist II
Your Opportunity:
The Tissue Specialist II is responsible for the recovery, processing, preservation and distribution of human tissue for transplant. The position also includes participation in the processing, preservation and distribution of living donor human tissue. All processes and practices are regulated by Health Canada and the American Association of Tissue Bank Standards. In this role, the Tissue Specialist II will also provide on-call coverage as per the rotation. He/she will be participating in the development of Give Life Alberta-Tissue Bank South to serve the needs of tissue transplantation locally, regionally and nationally. He/she also will participate in quality control and quality assurance processes, public/professional activities and program development. The position is under the leadership of the Unit Manager and Manager of Give Life Alberta-Tissue Bank South Program.
Description:
As a Tissue Specialist II, you will be responsible for the recovery, processing, preservation and distribution of human tissues for transplant. You will screen the donor by reviewing the obtained consent for donation and donor history to determine donor acceptability and perform physical assessment and surgical procedures as outlined in policy and procedures. You will participate in quality control and quality assurance processes, tissue transportation, public/professional awareness activities, and program development.

Graduate of health sciences diploma or degree program, or related field.
Additional Required Qualifications:Graduate of health sciences diploma or degree program, or related field. Demonstrated comfort in working within an operating room/ clean room setting using proper sterile technique and appropriate personal protective equipment. Demonstrated ability to develop and implement effective solutions, including during critical, stressful situations. Demonstrated ability for detail and accuracy. Demonstrated good verbal and written communication skills. Demonstrated ability to work as a team member. Demonstrated ability to adjust to changes and to be moved to various tasks depending on the workload as required. Solid knowledge and experience with computer applications. Must be flexible to work between the Tissue Bank and the Eye Bank.
Preferred Qualifications:Minimum 1 year experience in tissue and ocular recovery, processing, preservation and distribution of human tissues for transplantation. Tissue Bank Specialist (CTBS) certification or Eye Bank Specialist (CEBT) is preferred. Experience supporting validation of tissue banking/eye banking/laboratory practices and processes is preferred.
