Therapy Assistant LC

The Alberta Children’s Hospital is a warm and vibrant workplace, with team members, youth, families, staff and physicians partnering together to provide service to the children and families in inpatient units and ambulatory clinics. Reporting to the Unit Manger, the Therapy Assistant (TA) works under the direction of an Occupational Therapist, Physiotherapist, Recreation Therapist and/or Speech-Language Pathologist to meet children's rehabilitation and therapeutic goals. Representative duties may include but are not limited to: implementation of educational programming, developmental play, cognitive therapy, exercise programs, therapeutic activity and activities of daily living programs. The Therapy Assistant carries out both individual and group treatment programs utilizing a holistic, family centered approach. As the successful candidate, you will exhibit excellent communication skills and effective interpersonal skills, demonstrate the ability to work independently and collaboratively on a multidisciplinary team, and be highly organized. You will demonstrate initiative, adaptability and flexibility to meet varying clinical and operational needs in accordance with the Health Professions Act. You will be required to work across settings such as the Inpatient units, Burns, Dr. Gordon Townsend Rehab and Education Program, Early Childhood Rehab, Outpatient Neuro and Musculoskeletal treatment areas in order to support rehabilitation clinicians.
Description:
As a Therapy Assistant, you will work both individually and as part of an interprofessional team under the assignment, monitoring and evaluation of an audiologist, occupational therapist, physiotherapist, recreation therapist or speech-language pathologist. You will contribute to effective and efficient rehabilitation services including direct and indirect client care across the health care continuum (healthy living, getting better, living with illness and disability, end of life care) for all ages as well as non-client service provision. This role will require you to work effectively with internal and external partners, and display professionalism and strong ethics in both client centered care and participation in care teams. You will demonstrate evidence of reflective thinking and lifelong learning that enhances individual and team competency. You will have opportunities to use your interpersonal and clinical skills in contributing to quality improvement, program planning and student supervision.

Completion of diploma from an accredited post-secondary rehabilitation Therapy Assistant program or equivalent training may be considered.
Additional Required Qualifications:Ability to perform frequent lifting (of varying size and weights), pushing/pulling, kneeling, crouching, walking and reaching on a daily basis. Demonstrated ability to transfer/lift children of varying ages and sizes. Basic Cardiac Life Support – Health Care Provider (BCLS-HSP). Within the past year, experience working with children with disabilities in a therapeutic setting.
Preferred Qualifications:Minimum one year demonstrated knowledge of child development. Minimum one year experience and knowledge working in tertiary rehabilitation service delivery. Minimum one year knowledge and experience in MSK, neurological conditions, rehabilitative service, and/or transition support (inpatient or outpatient). Knowledge of community resources.
