Your Opportunity:

The Alberta Children’s Hospital is a warm & vibrant workplace with team members, youth, families & physicians partnering together to provide service to children & families on inpatient units & ambulatory clinics. Within ACH ambulatory services, the Therapy Assistant (TA) works under the direction of a Physiotherapist, Occupational Therapist, Speech-Language Pathologist & Recreation Therapist (or other) to meet patient’s rehabilitation & therapeutic goals. Representative duties may include implementation of educational programming, developmental play, stretching programs, activities of daily living programs, &/or articulation. The TA carries out both individual & group treatment programs utilizing a holistic, family centered approach. As the successful candidate, you will exhibit excellent communication skills & effective interpersonal skills, demonstrate the ability to work independently & collaboratively on a multidisciplinary team, & be highly organized. You will demonstrate initiative, adaptability & flexibility to meet varying clinical & operational needs in accordance with the Health Professions Act. You may be required to work across other settings within the site wide model based on identified need & priority within the site, including inpatient units, and outpatient treatment areas. This position rotation is aligned with the school year schedule including planned breaks in the fall, winter, spring & summer.  The TA scheduled hours of work will be September through June of each year except for summer camp programs in July. Description:

As a Therapy Assistant, you will work both individually and as part of an interprofessional team under the assignment, monitoring and evaluation of an audiologist, occupational therapist, physiotherapist, recreation therapist or speech-language pathologist. You will contribute to effective and efficient rehabilitation services including direct and indirect client care across the health care continuum (healthy living, getting better, living with illness and disability, end of life care) for all ages as well as non-client service provision. This role will require you to work effectively with internal and external partners, and display professionalism and strong ethics in both client centered care and participation in care teams. You will demonstrate evidence of reflective thinking and lifelong learning that enhances individual and team competency. You will have opportunities to use your interpersonal and clinical skills in contributing to quality improvement, program planning and student supervision.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of diploma from an accredited post-secondary rehabilitation Therapy Assistant program or equivalent training may be considered.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Completion of diploma from an accredited post-secondary rehabilitation Therapy Assistant program. Minimum one to two years of experience working with children with disabilities in a therapeutic setting. Minimum one year of demonstrated knowledge of child development. Minimum 6 months to one year of knowledge and experience in neurological conditions, rehabilitative service, and transition support. Ability to do heavy lifting (up to 50 pounds) on a daily basis. Demonstrated ability to transfer/lift children of varying ages and sizes. Current BCLS-HCP certification or ability to re-certify within 2-4 weeks of commencing work.
