Therapy Assistant LC
Your Opportunity:
As a Therapy Assistant in the Stroke Early Supported Discharge team you will have the opportunity to be a transdisciplinary professional under the direction of Occupational Therapists, Physical Therapist, Speech-language Pathologist and Social worker both individually and in co-treatment contexts. You will be led by the Team Lead of the Stroke Early Supported Discharge (SESD) Team reporting to the Manager of the SESD team. You will contribute to effective and efficient rehabilitation services including in-person and virtual client care for adults recovering from strokes, as well as non-client service activities. You will travel to clients’ homes in the community to provide treatment for client centered goals and must be able to communicate the changing client needs to therapists on a regular basis. This role will require you to work effectively with internal and external partners, and display professionalism and strong ethics in both client centered care and participation in the care team. You will demonstrate evidence of reflective practice and lifelong learning that enhances individual and team competency. You will have opportunities to use your interpersonal and clinical skills in contributing to quality improvement, program planning and student supervision. You will contribute to team maintenance tasks such as ordering supplies; preparing treatment media, maintaining cleanliness, and safety as well as other support/clerical duties as required.
Description:
As a Therapy Assistant, you will work both individually and as part of an interprofessional team under the assignment, monitoring and evaluation of an audiologist, occupational therapist, physiotherapist, recreation therapist or speech-language pathologist. You will contribute to effective and efficient rehabilitation services including direct and indirect client care across the health care continuum (healthy living, getting better, living with illness and disability, end of life care) for all ages as well as non-client service provision. This role will require you to work effectively with internal and external partners, and display professionalism and strong ethics in both client centered care and participation in care teams. You will demonstrate evidence of reflective thinking and lifelong learning that enhances individual and team competency. You will have opportunities to use your interpersonal and clinical skills in contributing to quality improvement, program planning and student supervision.

Completion of diploma from an accredited post-secondary rehabilitation Therapy Assistant program or equivalent training may be considered.
Additional Required Qualifications:Ability to prioritize and organize work assignments with minimal direction is required. Must be able to work independently with adults in their homes and community and perform physically demanding activities applying appropriate body mechanics. CPR required. Vehicle for travel to clients' homes required.
Preferred Qualifications:Comfort with Outlook, Microsoft Teams, Zoom/virtual therapy and Connect Care is an asset. Familiarity with Health Change Methodology is also beneficial. Previous experience working in a rehabilitation setting, home care setting, or with patients who have suffered a stroke would be a definite asset. Experience with speech and language treatments is an asset.
