These pillars guide the development and delivery of service to all patients and families at SHC. The Allied Health department at South Health Campus provides services to inpatient units and outpatient service areas. Under general supervision from the Allied Health Assistant Manager and support from the Clinical Practice Leader, this Therapy Assistant position is primarily responsible for providing direct and non-direct patient care. The current caseload is in Hand Therapy. As a Therapy Assistant, you will work both individually and as part of an inter-professional team under the assignment, monitoring and evaluation of a Hand Therapist. In the Hand Clinic, the Therapy Assistant is responsible for carrying out individual treatment plans including splinting and sewing, as assigned by a therapist, as well as performing various department support functions. The position requires the ability to prioritize and organize daily work schedules to manage client caseload and service delivery responsibilities. Strong communication, collaboration, self-management, and organizational skills are required. There is potential for coverage in other areas of the hospital including inpatient and outpatient areas. The caseload for all positions within the Allied Health department may be subject to change based on operational considerations. This position is physically demanding and requires repetitive lifting and transferring of patients and/or equipment.

Description:

As a Therapy Assistant, you will work both individually and as part of an interprofessional team under the assignment, monitoring and evaluation of an audiologist, occupational therapist, physiotherapist, recreation therapist or speech-language pathologist. You will contribute to effective and efficient rehabilitation services including direct and indirect client care across the health care continuum (healthy living, getting better, living with illness and disability, end of life care) for all ages as well as non-client service provision. This role will require you to work effectively with internal and external partners, and display professionalism and strong ethics in both client centered care and participation in care teams. You will demonstrate evidence of reflective thinking and lifelong learning that enhances individual and team competency. You will have opportunities to use your interpersonal and clinical skills in contributing to quality improvement, program planning and student supervision.
