Therapy Assistant
Your Opportunity:
This position primarily supports Speech-Language Pathology, Physical Therapy, and Occupational Therapy services within an adult outpatient rehabilitation setting. Preference will be given to candidates with experience delivering adult speech, language, and cognitive-communication therapy, including virtual sessions and group-based interventions. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong clinical judgment, excellent communication and computer skills, and a genuine passion for adult neurorehabilitation. The Community Rehabilitation Interdisciplinary Service (CRIS) clinic—located at the Mother Rosalie Health Services Building (Misericordia Community Hospital), the Kaye Edmonton Clinic, and the Strathcona Community Hospital—is seeking a Therapy Assistant to support rehabilitation services for community-dwelling adults with complex and neurological conditions. This role offers the opportunity to work as part of a dynamic interdisciplinary team that includes Speech-Language Pathology, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Recreation Therapy, Psychology, and Social Work. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering high-quality, patient-centered care in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team and under the supervision of licensed therapists. Responsibilities also include maintaining accurate clinical documentation, supporting the education of student therapy assistants, and contributing to the delivery of safe, effective, and appropriate care.
Description:
As a Therapy Assistant, you will work both individually and as part of an interprofessional team under the assignment, monitoring and evaluation of an audiologist, occupational therapist, physiotherapist, recreation therapist or speech-language pathologist. You will contribute to effective and efficient rehabilitation services including direct and indirect client care across the health care continuum (healthy living, getting better, living with illness and disability, end of life care) for all ages as well as non-client service provision. This role will require you to work effectively with internal and external partners, and display professionalism and strong ethics in both client centered care and participation in care teams. You will demonstrate evidence of reflective thinking and lifelong learning that enhances individual and team competency. You will have opportunities to use your interpersonal and clinical skills in contributing to quality improvement, program planning and student supervision.

Completion of diploma from an accredited post-secondary rehabilitation Therapy Assistant program or equivalent training may be considered.
Additional Required Qualifications:Strong personal communication skills: verbal and written, the candidate brings experience delivering adult speech, language, and cognitive-communication therapy, including virtual sessions and group-based interventions. Strong communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills are essential, along with the ability to plan, organize, and prioritize in a collaborative team setting. A patient- and family-centered approach to care is expected. Proficiency with basic computer applications—such as word processing, email, and internet use is required, along with comfort using technology for virtual care and point-of-care charting. The role involves moderate physical effort (20–50lbs), including lifting equipment and assisting with client mobility. Prolonged sitting with a laptop and headset is required for virtual services and documentation. Current BCLS-HCP certification and Connect Care training are required, with demonstrated ability to document and manage clinical tasks using electronic health records.
Preferred Qualifications:A minimum of two years’ experience working with adults with neurological conditions and complex rehabilitation needs is preferred. Training and experience in implementing Health Change Methodology™ principles is considered an asset. Familiarity with Connect Care scheduling functions, in addition to electronic medical record documentation, is also an asset.
