Your Opportunity:

This is an exciting opportunity for a Therapy Assistant interested in working with a lifespan program that supports individuals who have complex assistive technology needs in the areas of alternative and augmentative communication (AAC), power mobility, computer/tablet access for reading, writing, and gaming, and electronic aids to daily living (EADL). The I CAN Centre at the Glenrose Hospital, is seeking a Therapy Assistant to provide support in a tertiary program that serves Northern Alberta. This position provides the opportunity to work within an interdisciplinary team including Occupational Therapy, Speech-Language Pathology, and a variety of other disciplines. The successful candidate will be expected to participate in patient-related activities, such as direct patient therapy (either individual or group) under the supervision of an OT or SLP. Experience with assistive and adaptive technology in the areas of AAC, Complex Computer/tablet Access, EADL, and Complex Power Mobility would be an asset. The successful applicant will assist with patient transfers, wheelchair/seating/mounting adjustments. Non patient-related tasks include maintaining I CAN equipment, managing equipment inventory, processing patient equipment funded by AADL /NIHB, maintaining shipping/receiving records, communicating with vendors and manufacturer reps, materials preparation, cleaning, etc.

Description:

As a Therapy Assistant, you will work both individually and as part of an interprofessional team under the assignment, monitoring and evaluation of an audiologist, occupational therapist, physiotherapist, recreation therapist or speech-language pathologist. You will contribute to effective and efficient rehabilitation services including direct and indirect client care across the health care continuum (healthy living, getting better, living with illness and disability, end of life care) for all ages as well as non-client service provision. This role will require you to work effectively with internal and external partners, and display professionalism and strong ethics in both client centered care and participation in care teams. You will demonstrate evidence of reflective thinking and lifelong learning that enhances individual and team competency. You will have opportunities to use your interpersonal and clinical skills in contributing to quality improvement, program planning and student supervision.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of diploma from an accredited post-secondary rehabilitation Therapy Assistant program or equivalent training may be considered.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Minimum 1 year of experience working as a Therapy Assistant. The successful candidate must have experience with computer applications. Demonstrates excellent communication (written and verbal), interpersonal, and time management skills. Displays professionalism, tact, courtesy, discretion and respects confidentiality. Demonstrates good organizational, problem-solving and decision-making ability. Must be able to work in fast paced work environment and be able to work both independently and co-operatively in a team environment. Must be able to adapt to new technologies, changing workflow patterns and be able to follow oral and written instructions. Must be accurate, punctual, reliable, co-operative, and have an excellent attendance record. Must be in good physical condition as work can involve heavy lifting, standing, crouching, pushing, pulling, kneeling, and typing. Must be comfortable using tools for minor adjustments for mounting equipment and wheelchairs.

Preferred Qualifications:

Completion of Therapy-Assistant Diploma is an asset. Experience with trouble-shooting, set-up, maintenance and programing of assistive technology. Knowledge and experience with iOS and Windows Operating Systems, Microsoft 365. Knowledge and experience with inventory software. Knowledge and experience with AADL. Knowledge and experience with 3d design and printing, splinting and equipment modifications.
