Completion of diploma from an accredited post-secondary rehabilitation Therapy Assistant program or equivalent training may be considered.
Additional Required Qualifications:The Therapist Assistant works under the direction of Physical Therapists and Occupational Therapists providing rehabilitation to patients in a tertiary rehabilitation center. Provides direct client care by assisting physiotherapists and occupational therapists with the application of exercise programs, therapeutic group activities, activities of daily living, and ambulation and mobility skills. Assists with the delivery of indirect care by participating in the setup for treatment activities, facilitating client participation in treatment, coordinating equipment loan procedures, providing inventory control, setting up and using therapeutic technologies, cleaning tasks, documentation and performing other support duties as required. Program area may be subject to change based on operational requirements. Current assignment is inpatient Older Adults team, rehabilitation unit, cognitive behavior unit and psychiatry. Assignment is subject to change as per operational needs. Effective written, verbal, communication, and computer skills are required. Ability to prioritize and organize workload with minimal direct supervision and incorporate creative problem solving is required. Experience with EMR/Connect Care required. Experience and proficiency working with rehabilitation technologies is required. Recent tertiary rehabilitation experience with adult inpatient and outpatients with a variety of diagnosis is required.
Preferred Qualifications:Experience with rehabilitation technologies such as Bioness, CAREN, Mini CAREN, Tethering/Harness systems and Zero G is an asset. The successful incumbent will be capable of performing lifts, transfers, repositioning, and other physically demanding activities associated with this role.
