Assisted Living Alberta is dedicated to Enhancing Care in the Community, helping people be healthy, well and independent in their homes and communities. For more information Assisted Living Alberta Edmonton Zone Continuing Care provides services through five main program areas: Home Living, Supportive Living, Facility Living, Transition Services and Palliative Care. This position supports clients within the Adult Day Program. The Therapy Aide with the Adult Day Program assists with the planning and delivering of activities to a group of adults with physical, mental and cognitive challenges. The position is vital to engaging clients, motivating their involvement and meeting their personal needs as identified on the client's care plan. The Therapy Aide keeps the space clean and free of hazards. This position is based out of the St. Albert Home Care office but will provide support to the Suburban/ Rural West team, which includes travel to other home care network offices, as required. Position works Monday to Friday. Shift length is 6.20 and start time will be between 0800 and 0900. Duties of this position include: Assists with implementation of basic individual and group programs as established in the treatment/care plan for clients at the day program. Promotes client comfort, safety, independence and motivates client to actively participate in the planned day program activities. Assists clients with basic ADL's and IADL's within the context of the day program. These include meal setup, mobility assist and assistance with transfers. Contributes to planning, setting up and cleaning up with the activities at day program in conjunction with other staff. Identifies and orders equipment and supplies, checks, cleans and maintains equipment as assigned. Maintains equipment as assigned, including tracking of cleaning and maintenance schedules.

Description:

As a Therapy Aide, you will be working both independently and as part of the interdisciplinary team where you will contribute to the effective and efficient delivery of rehabilitation services. Your role may include administrative duties such as ordering supplies, booking clients, tracking attendances, equipment inventory and preparing/cleaning the treatment area. Under the direction of a supervising recreation therapist, physiotherapist, occupational therapist, audiologist, or speech language pathologist, you will prepare and/or apply routine interventions, promote patient (client, resident) healthy living, self-care independence and motivate clients to actively participate in assigned therapy protocols or programs. You may assist with client lifts and transfers, positioning, and basic activities of daily living (ADL) and instrumental activities of daily living (IADL) within the context of the therapy program.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of Grade 12.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Basic Cardiac Life Support- Healthcare Provider (BCLS-HCP). Communication and assessment skills to work cooperatively and effectively with the healthcare team members, clients, and their families in a fast-paced environment. Strong professional judgment, initiative, and effective time management skills are necessary. At the time of interview, you may be required to demonstrate your computer knowledge and proficiency by completing a hands-on assessment. You must demonstrate sufficient typing speed to meet workload demand and navigate through various computer programs including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint), Visio, Outlook and Internet.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in a Continuing Care, rehabilitation or applicable health care setting. Knowledge of Connect Care. Formal education and experience working within the recreation field and with seniors is an asset.
