Your Opportunity:
This Casual HVAC Technician position reports to the Manager of Engineering Services, FME at the UAH. The role supports the safe, reliable, and compliant operation of electrical systems within a large, complex acute-care healthcare environment encompassing approximately 650,000 m². The HVAC Technician performs required journeyperson-level duties installation, testing, troubleshooting, commissioning, maintenance, and repair of building air handling systems in accordance with applicable NBC, NFPA, IPC, ASHRAE standards, manufacturer specifications, and HSS/AHS standards and practices. Responsibilities include supporting essential and non-essential electrical infrastructure such as indoor air quality, infection prevention and control and life-safety within clinical and patient care areas. This includes oversight of system reliability and coordination of work impacting life-safety and essential power systems. Upholds’ safety work practices and completes all training as required. Working collaboratively with other trades, contractors, engineers, and clinical stakeholders, the incumbent performs assigned electrical work to support continuous facility operations. Responsibilities include monitoring the performance of assigned systems, completing preventive and corrective maintenance, preparing technical documentation, accurately recording work activities in the maintenance management system (eFacilities), and providing technical support during renovation, inspection, and capital project activities. The incumbent works independently with minimal supervision, applies sound judgment in a safety-critical environment, and responds to planned and unplanned service demands. This casual position has no guaranteed hours and may involve shifts during days, evenings, nights, weekends, based on operational needs. This position is available to Edmonton Zone as needed.

Completion of a post-secondary education in a related trade or technology program.
Additional Required Qualifications:A valid NAIT BEST/BAST diploma or related technical diploma is required. A minimum of 7 years’ experience as a Temperature Control Mechanic/HVAC Technician, including 5 years of building maintenance experience and 4 years in a complex healthcare environment, is required. Demonstrated experience analyzing HVAC system performance, mechanical codes, applicable CSA standards, manufacturer specifications, safety rules, and advanced troubleshooting is required. Proven ability to implement preventive maintenance programs, prepare technical documentation, feasibility input, cost estimates, and reports, and coordinate ordering of materials and supplies is required. Experience using Microsoft Visio and BMS operations is an asset. Proficiency with Outlook, Word, and Excel is required. The incumbent must be able to work independently, manage competing priorities, respond promptly to service requests, meet deadlines, and maintain confidentiality in accordance with organizational policy while functioning effectively in an interdisciplinary healthcare environment. The role requires the ability to lift or move heavy materials or equipment; work in awkward positions; work on ladders for extended periods; work in hot, dirty, or confined environments; and perform tasks involving sitting, bending, kneeling, and crouching without limitation. Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to meet all organizational policy requirements for employment are required.
Preferred Qualifications:Experience in an acute care hospital maintenance environment is preferred. Demonstrated ability to work effectively under emergency conditions and in challenging situations is considered an asset. Knowledge of CSA Z317.2, ASHRAE 170, healthcare infection prevention and control requirements, and applicable work safety regulations is considered an asset. Availability to work a variety of shift schedules, including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays, is considered an asset.
