Supervisor - South Sector, Community Paramedic
Your Opportunity:
The EMS Mobile Integrated Healthcare (MIH) program, also known as the Community Paramedic program, provides short-term scheduled and unscheduled care to patients in the community experiencing barriers to accessing the healthcare system. The MIH program provides care in all zones of the province and employs over 100 Community Paramedics. The MIH program is looking for an energetic and inspiring person to provide guidance and operational leadership to the South Sector of the program. Reporting to the MIH South Sector Operations Manager, the successful candidate will jointly lead a team of over 80 full-time, part-time, and casual Community Paramedics and Team Leads in Calgary, Lethbridge, and Medicine Hat Zones. The MIH Supervisor will support zone Team Leads in daily tasks including, but not limited to, major equipment ordering, hiring and managing staff, ensuring required HR processes are addressed, as well as leading and coordinating the implementation of new processes and projects as directed by the MIH leadership group. This position will juggle many competing priorities, requiring the successful candidate to have excellent time management skills. This position will work with internal and external stakeholders and partners within and outside of AHS, as well as the physician leads of the various zones, to guide the program in meeting local community healthcare needs. The supervisor will need to be able to articulate program vision, mission, and goals to staff and demonstrate the alignment of program values, including improving access to healthcare, in their daily work. The successful candidate will be required to travel to all communities and zones in which the MIH program operates for the purpose of meeting with staff and stakeholders.

Duties for the MIH Supervisor include, but are not limited to: People Management Strategic use of human resources in providing the most effective and efficient delivery of client service and patient care. Duties include recruitment, staffing, change management, attendance and disability management, and performance management in accordance with AHS policy and the current collective bargaining agreement. Operational Leadership Provide leadership through effective communication, ethical decision-making, and a commitment to achieving established goals and objectives, ensuring outcome measurements and standards are met. Identify key challenges and opportunities, and provide leadership to support the development of innovative approaches that enable the achievement of the MIH vision, mission, and long-term goals. Conduct workforce planning using a collaborative, team-based approach that leverages a variety of skill sets as required. Resource Management Support the development and implementation of policies, procedures, and directives that enhance service delivery. Develop strategies to improve system performance and operational efficiencies within the program. Assist in the preparation, monitoring, and stewardship of the operational budget. Relationship Management Through significant interaction with internal and external partners and stakeholders across the province, influence and support the advancement of key initiatives related to the MIH program. Strategic Planning Contribute to the development of strategic and operational plans and the establishment of business priorities. Duties include forecasting future staffing requirements, evaluating resources and service levels, and developing cost-effective plans to ensure appropriate resource allocation. Anticipate, coordinate, and plan staffing, facilities, equipment, and other logistical requirements as applicable.

Regulated Healthcare Professional licensed in Alberta. Previous experience in leading a moderate to large sized (25-50) team of regulated healthcare professionals. Previous experience with project and change management. Ability to conduct scheduled travel throughout Northern and Central Alberta. Excellent Time Management and Organizational Skills. Exceptional Written and Spoken Communication Skills. Strong working knowledge of the Microsoft suite of programs including Excel, Word, Power Point, Outlook and Teams.
Additional Required Qualifications:
Demonstrate progressive leadership ideally in an organization of significant size, complexity and diversity. A clear pattern for professional and personal development. Valid Class 4 Driver's License with no more than 6 demerits. Effective communicator with strong organization and influencing skills. Demonstrated patient focused philosophy with a commitment to providing quality services. Leadership skills include demonstrated ability and comfort with decision making responsibilities, coaching, teaching and the ability to inspire and build confidence in others. Demonstrated ability to manage change and create innovative solutions for complex and diverse issues. Ability to manage human, financial and physical resources within an operating environment. Proved ability to foster partnerships and to achieve organization goals within an organization and ideally within a unionized environment. Strong track record in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Effective leadership abilities combined with a strong commitment to operating within a team environment and the ability to motivate and inspire others to achieve common goals. Excellent analytical and decision-making skills. Ability to foster and build solid relationships with the public agencies, government, committees and other partners. Demonstrated ability in conflict and crisis management.
Preferred Qualifications:
Registered Advanced Care Paramedic with the Alberta College of Paramedics without practice restrictions. Knowledge of AHS HR processes and systems including My Safety Net, RMS and TeleStaff. Experience leading virtual, multi-disciplinary teams across large geographies.
