Your Opportunity:

This full-time position is responsible for the systematic auditing, analysis, and reporting of emergency calls handled by EMS Dispatch, Communications, and Deployment (DCD). The role ensures compliance with the detailed standards set by the International Academy of Emergency Dispatch (IAED) Accreditation standards and the Alberta Emergency 9-1-1 standards. The successful candidate, in conjunction with the EMS Quality & Patient Safety Senior Quality Assurance Strategists, serve as the subject matter expert for all call evaluation reviews, audit compliance, and lead initiatives that enhance service quality, training, and risk mitigation across EMS call-taking operations. The position will oversee the IAED Accreditation for EMS DCD. Including, but not limited to, ensuring we meet the Accreditation standards on a quarterly basis as well as the Accreditation submission every three years. The position will contribute to the development and improvement of applicable policy, processes, recommendations for change, and procedure related call evaluation, ensuring a provincially consistent approach across all AHS EMS areas and dispatch centers. In addition to a competitive rate of pay, AHS currently has a Remote Retention Allowance in place to an annual maximum of $3,000. This allowance is non-pensionable and is payable on an hourly basis for all hours paid at the basic rate of pay.

This position supports EMS Dispatch, Communications and Deployment (DCD) in collaboration with Quality and Patient Safety (QPS) through standardized auditing, analysis, and reporting of emergency calls. The successful applicant will help ensure compliance with IAED accreditation as well as Alberta Emergency 911 accreditation requirements. This role serves as a subject matter expert in call evaluation and audit compliance, working closely with Quality and Patient Safety Strategists to lead initiatives that enhance training and overall system performance directly related to 911 call evaluation. This Provincial position is negotiable between Edmonton, Calgary, and Peace River.

Required Qualifications:

Post-secondary degree or diploma. Emergency Medical Dispatch Certified (EMD). Emergency Medical Dispatch – Quality Assurance Certified (EMD-Q). Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with patients, leaders, EMS staff, and allied agencies. Demonstrated ability to build relationships with healthcare professionals and other members of the community. Demonstrated ability to work with minimal direct supervision. Demonstrated ability to effectively provide and accept constructive feedback. Collaborative engagement skills. Strong written communication skills. Experience and understanding in the areas of patient safety, ethics, privacy, advocacy and patient care. Experience using MS Office programs including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and MS Teams. In depth knowledge of AHS EMS system.


Additional Required Qualifications:

Has worked as an ECO for 3 or more years.


Preferred Qualifications:

Previous experience leading and/or participating in a safety/change management project in healthcare/government environment. Previous experience with other EMS special projects. Familiarity with change management principles is an asset. Familiarity with project management principles is an asset
