Your Opportunity:

Under the supervision and direction of the Manager, Financial Reporting, the Senior Financial Analyst is responsible for preparing and reviewing grant-related financial reports and supporting accurate, reliable, and timely reporting to external agencies. The position also contributes to a broad range of financial reporting activities, including evaluating and reviewing internal controls; researching technical accounting issues and assessing their applicability to the organization; interpreting accounting standards; assisting with financial statement audits; supporting tax compliance and preparation, including charity, information, and corporate tax returns; conducting financial analyses for special projects; responding to internal and external stakeholder inquiries; and assisting with the preparation of month-end, quarter-end, and year-end financial statements, internal reporting packages, and supporting documentation.

Description:

As a Senior Financial Analyst, you will coordinate and/or prepare complex financial and statistical analysis and reports, along with providing interpretation of analyses and reports to support business and external requirements. Your work will be focused on budgets, forecasting, recommendations for program and/or cost efficiencies and development or enhancements to processes and controls. In addition, you will coordinate and monitor progress of financial projects, as well as coach and guide other department staff such as Financial Analysts.

Required Qualifications:

Post secondary degree specializing in accounting or related field (e.g. economics, statistics).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting for large, complex clients in a public sector setting. Strong understanding of financial statements and financial data from various subsystems. Knowledge of tax return preparation. Excellent verbal and written communication, analytical, and organizational skills. Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, specifically Excel and Word. Proven ability to work collaboratively with stakeholders and prepare effective analyses for reporting cycles. Ability to manage competing priorities, work under pressure, and meet tight reporting deadlines. Ability to work independently with guidance in only the most complex situations and deal with complex and sensitive matters in a professional manner.

Preferred Qualifications:

Strong and current understanding of PSAS and other sectors of GAAP, with three (3) to five (5) years of accounting or financial reporting experience. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in a large, complex public sector entity. Chartered Professional Accounting designation. Experience supporting or managing financial statement audits. Experience with mentoring junior staff.
