Your Opportunity:
Health Shared Services (HSS) was established on October 22, 2025, for the purpose of delivering and coordinating the delivery of corporate and support services related to the administration and operation of the health care system in Alberta. These corporate and support services, which were formerly provided by the former Alberta Health Services organization, include contracting and procurement, finance, legal and information technology functions. HSS has a mandate to provide these corporate and support services to the various healthcare organizations that are responsible for delivering health services to the more than 4.3 million people living in Alberta, as well as to some residents of Saskatchewan, B.C. and the Northwest Territories. The Cybersecurity Solution Architect – Part of the Technology Architecture and Solutions (TAS) team, will provide security architecture and design for all technology layers within HSS. Key aspects of the role include: Understanding HSS technologies, information systems and security opportunities & risks. Creating and maintaining a technology security framework to guide the development and evolution of security capabilities within Technology Services’ operational team strategies and roadmaps. Acting as the point of contact for Technology Services’ contributions to the HSS cybersecurity strategy Collaborating with stakeholders to develop technical cybersecurity strategies as a subset of the HSS cybersecurity strategy. For example, cyber recovery strategy. Acting as technical security architecture lead during the implementation of strategies and roadmaps. The TAS team is responsible for providing architecture and engineering services for a large complex multi-site and multi-vendor, representing all HSS Technology services areas.

This position requires both in-depth technical and strategic thinking considering the complexity of HSS systems. Your previous experience at a large enterprise will enable us to design and implement complex solutions following industries’ best practices and deliver them in agile methodologies to meet our clients’ requirements Your responsibilities: Planning: Assessing existing end-to-end security capabilities within Technology Services. Analyzing current and emerging security threats. Identifying and documenting security design gaps and overlaps. Cybersecurity and cyber recovery architecture: Developing/integrating cybersecurity designs and architecture for systems and all layers of underlying technologies. Defining, creating, and helping maintain all needed security policies and procedures. Preparing technology cost estimates for all cybersecurity measures. Identifying potential integration issues. Providing technical guidance on the implementation of physical, procedural, and technical security controls. Leverage the NIST cyber security model and other best practice models (e.g. COBIT) as needed for the foundation for strategy development. Relationship Management and Advocacy: Identifying and prioritizing critical business functions in collaboration with organizational stakeholders, Information Risk Management, and other IT portfolios. Maintaining active communication with operational teams to understand their environments. Proposing technical and business process solutions to increase security controls. Other Responsibilities: Mentoring IT Solution Architects, TS Operations and overseeing security solutions suggested by other Technology architects.

Bachelor's or master's in computer science, cybersecurity, IT, or related field. 7+ years of experience in IT security and Cybersecurity Architecture in a large/complex enterprise. Deep understanding of cybersecurity principles, threat modeling, identity and access management (IAM), encryption, and secure coding practices. Strong knowledge of cloud security (AWS, Azure, GCP), endpoint protection, firewalls, SIEM, SOAR, and vulnerability management. Experience of architectural frameworks such as Cloud Adoption Framework (CAF), TOGAF, etc. Proficiency in security protocols (SSL/TLS, SAML, OAuth, etc.). Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills. Result’s oriented in a complex, diverse, and changing environment. Excellent written and oral communication skills and comfortably delivering presentations to executive level management internally and externally. Progressive leadership experience with responsibility for leading highly technical staff and cross-functional or matrixed teams within large, complex mission-critical systems or the equivalent.
Additional Required Qualifications:
Familiarity with Zero Trust Architecture and SASE principles. Hands-on experience with secure architecture for SaaS/PaaS/IaaS. Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments. CISSP, CISM, TOGAF, SABSA, AWS/Azure Architect, CCSP, or other relevant certifications. Familiarity using frameworks and standards such as HIPAA, CIS, NIST, ISO, SOC. ITIL foundations certification with Enterprise IT experience using ITIL.
