Your Opportunity:

Within Cancer Care Alberta (CCA), Supportive Care services are provided by a team of health care professionals dedicated to enhancing the quality of life of those affected by cancer in Alberta, by providing support and expert care from the time of cancer diagnosis, through treatment and beyond. The Psychosocial Oncology team, North, CCA is now accepting applications for a Social Worker II position at the Cross Cancer Institute in Edmonton in either inpatient or outpatient roles. The Social Worker II will assist in meeting the psychosocial needs of cancer patients and families through collaboration and consultation with medical, nursing, spiritual care, psychosocial and other members of the multidisciplinary health care team locally and provincially. This role collaborates with staff at tertiary, regional and community cancer centers, and community services to ensure the delivery of accessible, high quality, and patient-centered psychosocial care. The Social Worker II will assess the psychosocial needs of cancer patients and families, and provide supportive counselling, education, and resource-based interventions, and triage support in an inpatient and outpatient setting. Services are provided in person and via Virtual Health. The Social Worker II will also participate in Social Work communities of practice and program development initiatives.

Description:

As a Social Worker II, you will be a member of an inter-disciplinary team and provides a range of social work services to patients and their families. Your services may include: psychosocial assessment, resource-based interventions, individual, group and family treatment, risk screening, counselling, case management and coordination, transition or discharge planning, and prevention, promotion and public awareness activities.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of bachelor's degree in Social Work. Active or eligible for registration with the Alberta College of Social Workers (ACSW).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Minimum of 1 year experience in an Oncology setting. Minimum of 2 years of experience in a Medical setting (acute/ambulatory/community care). BCLS (CPR) certification required WHS - Musculoskeletal Injury (MSI) Prevention. WHS - Office Ergonomics. Within the last 2 years, working experience of the Patient Financial Assistance Program (PFAP), and other financial assistance requests. Comfortable working in a fast-paced, high volume outpatient clinic and treatment setting. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. High degree of competency working with patients who are experiencing emotional distress and life-threatening illness, grief and loss. Demonstrated ability to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds and cultures using a supportive, non-judgmental approach. Experience working with multidisciplinary teams.

Preferred Qualifications:

EPIC/Connect care experience. Experience in providing virtual care Authorization to perform restricted activity of Psychosocial Intervention. Non-violent crisis intervention training and crisis intervention skills would be considered an asset. Ability to work independently and collaboratively. Ability to be flexible and adaptable with work.
