Your Opportunity:

The Social Worker II will be part of a broader interdisciplinary team working in the Opioid Dependency Program (ODP) in Red Deer. We are seeking an experienced, caring, strength-based professional to complement our Health Services Team. Working from a harm reduction and trauma informed approach, the Social Worker II will be responsible for a variety of services from resource brokerage to counselling. This includes assessments of clients wanting to access services, participating with clients and the broader ODP team in the development and review of treatment plans, supporting clients in applications, providing psychosocial support, risk screening, counselling, case management & coordination, transition planning and informed referrals to other community services. The position will function in the context of an interdisciplinary team that provides quality, client focused, recovery based, concurrent capable and culturally sensitive care to those accessing services. The Social Worker position also involves consultation and collaboration with other service providers both internal and external to AHS.

Your services may include: psychosocial assessment, resource-based interventions, individual, group and family treatment, risk screening, counselling, case management and coordination, transition or discharge planning, and prevention, promotion and public awareness activities.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of bachelor's degree in Social Work. Active or eligible for registration with the Alberta College of Social Workers (ACSW).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience working with vulnerable populations and individuals with substance use disorder and mental health concerns. The successful candidate demonstrates advanced clinical skills in assessment, intervention, systems navigation and case management. Knowledge of, and ability to apply the principles of trauma informed care in all interactions with clients. Excellent communication, problem solving and organizational skills are required as is a demonstrated knowledge of community resources and the ability to collaborate with community partners. The successful applicant is a proactive individual needing to work professionally in a collaborative, fast-paced, positive team environment that requires excellent assessment, prioritization, conflict resolution, critical thinking and decision-making. Required understanding and dedication to practice utilizing harm reduction. Completion of non-violent crisis intervention course (NVCI) or registration into course upon hire is required as is Suicide Prevention training. The ability to physically respond, rapidly, to clinic emergencies is a requirement including stairs, bending, squatting, kneeling and standing/walking.

Preferred Qualifications:

Completion of Connect Care training.
