Within Cancer Care Alberta (CCA), Supportive Care services are provided by a team of health care professionals dedicated to enhancing the quality of life of those affected by cancer by providing support from the time of cancer diagnosis, through treatment and beyond. The team of professionals that work within CCA are leaders in cancer prevention, diagnosis, treatment, survivorship, and palliative care, all on a foundation of world-class research. The Social Work team at the new Arthur J.E. Child Comprehensive Cancer Centre is looking for a casual Social Worker to join the team. The SWII plays a crucial role in empowering patients and their caregivers to address the social determinants of health. If you are a patient-centered collaborator with social work experience and a passion for working in cancer care with availability to work Monday to Friday between the hours of 0800am to 17:00pm, this job is for you. We are looking for social workers interested in covering both inpatient and outpatient areas of service. Under general supervision of the Manager and with support from the Team Lead, the SWII participates in referral triage, screening, resource counselling, supportive counselling, psychoeducational groups, quality improvement initiatives and service evaluation. The SWII also engages in continuous professional development and education. Along with the team, the SWII supports orientation and mentorship of new employees, volunteers and students. Effective time management and excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential in this role. The applicant will be skilled at developing collaborative partnerships with community programs and other health professionals to help facilitate access to services and care. The caseload and hours of work for all positions within Psychosocial Oncology may be subject to change based on operational needs.

As a Social Worker II, you will be a member of an inter-disciplinary team and provides a range of social work services to patients and their families. Your services may include: psychosocial assessment, resource-based interventions, individual, group and family treatment, risk screening, counselling, case management and coordination, transition or discharge planning, and prevention, promotion and public awareness activities.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of bachelor's degree in Social Work. Active or eligible for registration with the Alberta College of Social Workers (ACSW).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Basic Cardiac Life Support-Healthcare Provider (BCLS-HCP) through Heart & Stroke Foundation. A minimum of 1 years post-degree (Social Work) experience. Within the last two years, experience providing virtual care (phone, MyAHSConnect, Zoom) In-depth knowledge and experience of advance care planning, income security programs, housing, and support services. Experience providing resource and supportive counseling. Demonstrated skills in assessment, intervention, system navigation and case management. Demonstrated dedication to professional development. Empathetic and adaptable approach to patient centered care. Proficient with Microsoft Suite (e.g., Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook).

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience working in an adult acute care setting within the last 5 years. Demonstrated experience working in an urban adult cancer care setting, palliative care, and outpatient care in the last 2 years. Experience triaging referrals. Experience facilitating groups. Experience providing education to patients and support people. Experience with grief and loss. Completed Connect Care training for Allied Health staff. Experience as a preceptor for students.
