Your Opportunity:

Located on the narrows between North and South Wabasca Lakes, Wabasca/Desmarais serves as the headquarters for the Municipal District of Opportunity and Bigstone Cree Nation, as well as for some provincial government area-offices. As the largest hamlet in the District of Opportunity, Wabasca is sheltered by the majestic North and South Wabasca Lakes. With a population of 3,300 split between MD residents and Bigstone Cree Nation members, the area is rich with culture mixed with small-town leisurely charm. Join our team in Wabasca as the Site Manager and embark on a rewarding journey of providing exceptional care to our community. Reporting to the Director of North Zone Area 6, the Site Manager is responsible for three key areas: Onsite Management of in-scope staff, Patient Flow Management, and Managing Emerging Issues. The primary focus is on ensuring the efficient utilization of resources, including both staff and bed allocation, while offering support to in-scope staff regarding patient or staff concerns. You’ll also serve as the main point of contact in case of an emerging issue, providing immediate assessment and coordination. As a compassionate and experienced leader, you’ll have full authority over all day-to-day operations of the site. As such, you will need to be able to work independently, communicate effectively and have strong problem-solving skills to mitigate issues as they arise. You will also need the expertise to drive the achievements and goals of the site, and nurture strong relationships with stakeholders. In addition to a competitive rate of pay, AHS currently has a Remote Retention Allowance in place to an annual maximum of $3,000. This allowance is non-pensionable and is payable on an hourly basis for all hours paid at the basic rate of pay.

Description:

As the Site Manager, you will be responsible for providing leadership to an interdisciplinary team of healthcare professionals dedicated to providing leading care to Albertans. In this leadership position, you will be making key decisions and establishing and contributing to the achievements and goals of the Site, Acute Care and the Emergency Department as well as responsible for developing and maintaining strong working relationships with key stakeholders, facilitating change management, promoting team development, teamwork and coordinating staffing and clinical work as identified by the Director. You will be responsible for developing and maintaining an effective framework for the operations of patient and resident care services to facilitate the delivery of efficient, effective and safe patient care. These activities may include providing day-to-day direction to the staff working on the unit, daily assignment of patients, rounds, staff scheduling, interdisciplinary rounds, identifying and attempting to resolve patient and staff concerns, and participating in the discharge planning process. In addition, you will be implementing and monitoring your portfolio’s budget while undertaking risk management, quality assurance and utilization activities. Your leadership, direction and organization of the units will be in support of the vision, mission and business plan.

Required Qualifications:

Active registration and practice permit with the College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CARNA) is required. A minimum of five (5) years’ experience and within the last three (3) years in a leadership role with experience in surgery and/or acute care/ O.R. Emergency. A minimum of five (5) years’ experience within the last ten (10) years in the following units: General Surgery, General Medicine, Combined Med/Surg, Acute Care, Sub-Acute, etc.). Equivalencies of education and experience may be considered.


Additional Required Qualifications:

Demonstrated progressive leadership experience in a healthcare environment, including management roles within health service operations. Proven ability to communicate effectively, supported by strong organizational and influential skills, a client-focused approach, and a commitment to delivering high-quality services. Exceptional leadership capabilities, including confidence in decision-making, coaching and mentoring, and the ability to inspire and instill confidence in others.


Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in nursing preferred. Knowledge of legislation and regulation related to healthcare. Knowledge of unionized work environments/union collective agreements.
