Service Worker II
Your Opportunity:
Wetaskiwin has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Service Worker II. As a Service Worker II you will be an invaluable member of the multidisciplinary team in the medical device reprocessing, operating room and day surgery departments. You will be transporting patients, surgical instruments, stocking, cleaning equipment and setting up and cleaning the operating rooms. You will also demonstrate genuine interest and respect for our patients and utilize your knowledge, skills, and abilities to provide support to the staff and the patients we serve. Wetaskiwin is located 70 km south of Edmonton in the heart of Central Alberta. The city name comes from the Cree word which means " the hills where peace was made ". You can take a self-guided tour through the historic downtown and read about the peace cairn that commemorates sixty years of peace between the Blackfoot and the Cree. Wetaskiwin has an extensive trail system that leads you around the entire city with a direct connection to By-the-Lake Park. Year-round markets provide citizens and visitors with fresh fruit, produce and many different homemade items. The Manluk Centre offers swim lessons, Fitness programs and Aquatic Leadership courses, as well as party facilities. There is always something to do in Wetaskiwin!
Description:
As a Service Worker II, you will be responsible for readying supplies, and cleaning/disinfecting instruments and specialty equipment for immediate use/reuse by healthcare staff. You will distribute and replenish patient care supplies, perform quality control tests on equipment and record maintenance data. You may also transport patients (clients/residents), equipment, lab specimens, blood and blood products, and patient charts. You will report any concerns regarding supplies and safety issues to Unit Managers and perform other duties as required. In addition, you will ensure that patient care areas and other assigned areas are accurately stocked and that specialty equipment required by the healthcare staff is available.

Grade 12 or equivalent.
Additional Required Qualifications:Current Alberta Heart & Stroke BLS Provider is required along with completion of Grade 12. Must be able to read, write, and communicate fluently in the English language. The incumbent must be able to demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills and manage a fast-paced, demanding environment that has shifting daily priorities. Must be reliable, cooperative, and demonstrate a high level of flexibility. Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time and perform repetitive movements for the duration of your shift. Physically capable to lift, push and pull up to 20 lbs of force. Previous knowledge and application of WHMIS is required. Knowledge of body mechanics is an asset along with a true interest in health care and the desire to help others. Possibility of working in other areas on site.
Preferred Qualifications:6 months Connect Care experience. Previous Portering experience. It's Your Move. AHS mandatory ROL's. Mask Fit tested. Current experience with cleaning/restocking in an operating room or medical device reprocessing setting.
