Your Opportunity:

Reporting to the Perioperative Manager, the Service Woker II supports the nursing staff in the surgical suites by performing a blend of general support services roles in the OR and on Day Surgery. Duties in the OR include but are not limited to theatre changeover - decontamination of soiled theatres, transportation and decanting of linens and garbage; case cart delivery from theatre to MDRD decontamination, communication of repairs identified, transfer of soiled linens and garbage and dirty case carts from theatre to respective decanting zones. Day Surgery and OR Unit Duties: emptying laundry hampers, restocking of linens, bedside supplies and assist with nursing as requested, address product returns from the operating rooms, restocking of the OR theatres as required, delivering specimens to the lab and transporting patients. Restocking such as managing inventory of specialty products and equipment, case cart preparation for elective cases. Checks and replenishes supplies, using handheld technology, manual, local drive spreadsheet and oracle requisitions. This applies to the OR as required, in accordance with pre-set quantities and top up schedule. Other duties as needed to support the day functioning of Day Surgery and the Operating room. The Service Woker II must be able to maneuver stretchers and other OR equipment. The Service Worker is required to help lift and transfer patients; therefore, the successful candidate must be able to bend, stoop, and reach above the shoulder. The ability to prioritize and have strong time management skills and clear communication is crucial.

Description:

As a Service Worker II, you will be responsible for readying supplies, and cleaning/disinfecting instruments and specialty equipment for immediate use/reuse by healthcare staff. You will distribute and replenish patient care supplies, perform quality control tests on equipment and record maintenance data. You may also transport patients (clients/residents), equipment, lab specimens, blood and blood products, and patient charts. You will report any concerns regarding supplies and safety issues to Unit Managers and perform other duties as required. In addition, you will ensure that patient care areas and other assigned areas are accurately stocked and that specialty equipment required by the healthcare staff is available.

Required Qualifications:

Grade 12 or equivalent.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Proficient in English. Recent Operating Room experience required. Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider (Level C) required. Ability to work independently or as a member of a multidisciplinary team. Ability to read, write and communicate effectively in the English language. Displays initiative, good judgment, and professionalism. Must be courteous and composed under pressure and can remain organized and set priorities. Maintains confidentiality. Computer skills are essential, and medical terminology is an asset. Able to lift, stand and walk for shift.
