Your Opportunity:

As a Service Worker I you will provide support within the Operative Services ATC, including the operating theatres and the recovery room. Primary responsibilities include patient transportation, restocking of the operating room support areas, and the safe handling of medical equipment and sterile products. Duties of the Service Worker I in the ATC Surgical Suite include but are not limited to: Transporting patients to and from the department both before and after surgery. Handling and restocking hospital equipment and supplies. Delivering specimens/blood to and from the lab. Environmental cleaning including disinfecting patient use items and equipment. Reporting concerns regarding supplies and safety issues to the Unit Managers. All duties require the ability to function as a member of the health care team with the shared goal of maintaining a hygienic, well-equipped and safe patient environment that all staff are proud to be a part of. The ATCOR is a busy and fast paced environment and does over 15,000 cases a year. Rotating day shifts (0645-1500, 0730-1545, 0830-1645, 0900-1715).

Description:

As a Service Worker I, you will be responsible for transporting patients (clients/residents) and equipment to and from different patient care areas within a hospital site. You will distribute and replenish hospital supplies throughout the units and clean equipment and patient care areas as directed. You may also transport lab specimens, blood and blood products, and patient charts. You will report any concerns regarding supplies and safety issues to Unit Managers and perform other duties as required.

Required Qualifications:

Grade 12 or equivalent.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Current Alberta Heart & Stroke BLS Provider is required along with completion of Grade 12. Must be able to read, write, and communicate fluently in the English language. The incumbent must be able to demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills and manage a fast paced, demanding environment that has shifting daily priorities. Due to the nature of the physically demanding duties, the incumbent must be able to work as part of a multidisciplinary team while maintaining confidential information. Must be reliable, cooperative, and demonstrate a high level of flexibility. Previous training and experience working in an operating room is essential. Preference will be given to those applicants that have experience and knowledge of transporting patients and cleaning/restocking of hospital equipment and supplies. Knowledge and experience working with routine and additional infection prevention precautions. Previous knowledge and application of WHMIS is required. Knowledge of body mechanics is an asset along with a true interest in health care and the desire to help others.
