Your Opportunity:

The System Strategy & Clinical Excellence (SS&CE) portfolio within Alberta Health Services supports clinical operations in delivering high quality, safe, and sustainable care for Albertans. Within SS&CE, the Optimization Team works with hospital sites and system partners to improve emergency department wait times, surgical access, patient flow, capacity, and overall system performance through focused, site‑based improvement initiatives. The Optimization Team is seeking a Senior Consultant to support the development and implementation of Corridor Improvement Plans (CIPs) at priority hospital sites across Alberta. Reporting to the Director, Optimization, this role offers a unique opportunity to work closely with site leaders, physicians, and provincial partners to support coordinated, evidence‑informed improvement efforts aligned with AHS and provincial priorities. This position is well suited to a professional with strong engagement, facilitation, and strategic planning experience who thrives in complex environments and enjoys enabling collaboration across operational, clinical, and corporate partners. As a provincial team, the position location is negotiable and may be eligible for remote or hybrid work arrangements. This role offers the opportunity to contribute directly to meaningful system improvement at a critical time for Alberta’s healthcare system.

Description:

The Senior Consultant plays a key role within the Optimization Team in the System Strategy & Clinical Excellence portfolio, supporting system strategy, clinical excellence, and operational performance across Alberta Health Services. Reporting to the Director, Optimization, the Senior Consultant leads and supports the development and implementation of Corridor Improvement Plans at priority hospital sites in alignment with provincial and organizational priorities. The role serves as a central engagement and facilitation resource, working closely with hospital site leaders, physicians, clinical teams, and provincial partners to co‑create actionable, evidence‑informed improvement plans. The Senior Consultant plans and facilitates engagement sessions, guides complex and at times challenging discussions, aligns diverse perspectives, and supports coordinated action across operational, clinical, and corporate partners. The Senior Consultant leads and supports strategic planning and implementation activities related to CIPs, including synthesizing site and system input, identifying risks and issues, developing recommendations, and supporting execution against agreed‑upon priorities. The role contributes to briefing materials, executive updates, and leadership discussions, and supports the Director in maintaining strong relationships across the system. The position requires advanced system‑level thinking, strong judgment, and the ability to influence without authority in a fast‑paced and evolving healthcare environment. Occasional provincial travel within Alberta may be required. Other duties will be assigned as required.

Required Qualifications:

A Bachelor’s degree in a health, business, public administration, or related discipline, with education and experience relevant to the role. A minimum of five (5) years of progressive experience leading or supporting initiatives within a complex organization. Demonstrated, hands‑on experience leading stakeholder engagement and facilitating planning and working sessions with multidisciplinary groups, including clinical and senior leadership audiences. Experience guiding conversations in complex, high‑pressure environments and supporting alignment across diverse perspectives is required. Demonstrated experience working in or with healthcare systems or large public‑sector organizations. A clear pattern of professional and personal development. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience will be considered.


Additional Required Qualifications:

Strong facilitation and engagement skills, including the ability to design and lead collaborative planning sessions, workshops, and discussions focused on problem solving, priority setting, and implementation. Demonstrated strategic thinking skills, including the ability to synthesize diverse and sometimes competing input into clear, actionable recommendations aligned with organizational priorities. Proven experience supporting or implementing complex initiatives, including identifying risks, managing issues, and supporting execution. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience preparing briefing materials, presentations, and updates for senior leadership. Demonstrated ability to build trust, manage relationships, and influence without formal authority. Strong organizational skills, sound judgment, and the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast‑paced environment. High level of professionalism when managing sensitive or complex issues. Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, SharePoint, and Microsoft Teams.


Preferred Qualifications:

A Master’s degree in healthcare administration, business, public policy, or a related field. Experience supporting hospital operations, patient flow, access, or system performance improvement initiatives. Experience working with site‑based improvement planning in acute care settings.
