Reporting to the Program Lead, the Senior Consultant, Provincial Pathways Unit (PPU), plays a vital role in the codesign, development, implementation, and evaluation of clinical, patient and referral pathways. These pathways aim to improve how patients move through the healthcare system, making care more consistent, timely, and patient-focused. In this role, you’ll work with teams from across the healthcare system, including primary care, specialty care, operations, and patients and families, to design, develop and implement practical solutions that support better care. You’ll lead working groups, guide teams through change, and help ensure that new pathways are based on evidence and support improved patient experiences and outcomes. We’re looking for someone who is action-oriented, comfortable managing competing ideas, and confident making progress even when things aren’t fully clear. You have strong facilitation skills, are familiar with healthcare technology, and believe that patients should always be at the centre of our work. You’re also organized, collaborative, and committed to getting things done on time. Description:
The Senior Consultant supports the vision of the Provincial Pathways Unit (PPU) by leading the co-design, development, implementation, and evaluation of clinical, patient, and referral pathways. Reporting to the PPU Program Lead, this is a senior professional role that involves managing complex issues during pathway development and implementation. The work requires both a high level of independence and active contribution to a positive and collaborative team environment. The Senior Consultant brings clinical knowledge into the workspace to ensure pathways are practical, relevant, and aligned with frontline realities. They will lead and facilitate co-design teams and working groups involving partners from across the health system. This role requires strong collaboration with Primary Care, Specialty Care, PCA operations and leadership, academic institutions, and includes acting as a liaison for patient and family advisors engaged in pathway development. As a core member of a passionate, cross-functional team, the Senior Consultant plays a critical role in delivering the PPU’s vision and ensuring that pathway initiatives are meaningful, evidence-informed, and focused on improving care across Alberta.

University degree in a health profession or in health services administration. Equivalencies may be considered. Clinical experience/training with current or past registration with professional body with minimum of 5 years experience. Demonstrated skills and experience in fostering and maintaining strong, collaborative relationships and partnerships within the health system in Alberta Minimum of 5 years’ experience in quality improvement and change implementation of large scale projects. Formal training in change management, such as PROSCI , or quality improvement is considered an asset A demonstrated clear pattern of personal and professional development. Proven ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment with a broad range of professionals and partners. Deeply committed to patient-centred care, with a strong belief that patients are at the heart of all healthcare decisions, initiatives, and innovations. Strong skills in analytics, measurement, and data visualization, with a passion for using data to drive decisions and improve outcomes. Comfortable interpreting complex data and turning it into meaningful insights that support action and impact.
Additional Required Qualifications:Exceptional facilitation skills, with the ability to lead constructive dialogue, navigate differing viewpoints, and guide collaborative decision-making. Comfort in incorporating data into decision making and informing projects and supporting implementation. Experience in patient engagement, behaviour change, and team-based care, supporting the delivery of patient-centred services. Extensive knowledge of the health system and leading practices for implementing and sustaining change. Expertise in quality and healthcare improvement, supported by deep knowledge and a passion for advancing outcomes. Strong leadership skills, including the ability to lead multidisciplinary teams, make decisions, coach others, and foster positive team dynamics and workplace engagement and joy at work Proven ability in human-centred design and change management, with practical experience and/or certification. Working knowledge of quality improvement methodologies, research methods, and critical appraisal, including experience with systematic reviews. Effective communicator with strong organizational and influencing skills, and a patient-focused approach to delivering high-quality even in complex or challenging situations. Ability to navigate ambiguity and work comfortably in complex, evolving environments. Thrives in the ‘grey,’ using sound judgment, evidence, and collaboration to move initiatives forward.
Preferred Qualifications:Masters level degree. Experience in Primary Care is considered an asset. Takes initiative and ownership to move work forward, prioritizing timely completion, follow-through, and forward momentum.
