Senior Consultant
Your Opportunity:
The Optimization Team is a newly established team supporting the priorities of Alberta Health Services’ (AHS’s). The Optimization Team is hiring three (3) Senior Consultants to support AHS’s key priority areas including reducing emergency room and surgical wait times, improving acute care capacity and flow and implementation of the new Patient-focused Funding (PFF) model. As a Senior Consultant you will be part of a team providing oversight and leading strategic support to current and new initiatives. As this is a provincial team, this position’s location is negotiable and may be eligible for a remote/hybrid work arrangement. Description:
The Senior Consultant plays an important role as a leader in the support to AHS priorities including improving ED wait times, surgeries and capacity & flow in hospitals. The Senior Consultant is part of the primary team managing and supporting Task Force initiatives that focus on AHS priorities, as well as Patient Focused Funding initiatives. The incumbent oversees and manages implementation of initiatives undertaken by the Optimization Team, which may vary in scope and complexity and requires problem solving. The role includes analyzing and escalating initiative concerns, utilizing and developing project plans, timelines and monitoring key data measures. This role requires knowledge of change management to provide support to operations, and monitor and escalate concerns related to the health of projects. This role requires a high level of flexibility and organization, as well as the ability to work with senior and executive leaders. The Senior Consultant will be expected to work independently and interdependently with other members of the Optimization Team, as well as other internal and external stakeholders. The Senior Consultant must have leadership skills and well-developed system and critical thinking skills with the ability to problem-solve in a complex, multidisciplinary environments, and within tight timelines. There will be ad hoc travel requirements provincially within Alberta. The role will include other duties as assigned.

Bachelor's Degree in a health, business, financial or human resources discipline with experience that aligns with the role. Extensive knowledge of the health system and a minimum of 5 years' experience leading and implementing and scaling initiatives. A demonstrated clear pattern of professional and personal development. Equivalent combination of education, training, and experience will be considered.
Additional Required Qualifications:
5-7 years experience in a complex public or private organization. Demonstrated leadership, organizational, and team building skills. Strong understanding of the integration of business operations. Experience in the health care system would be considered an asset. Ability to monitor and analyze data for use in decision making and recommendations. Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing. Proven ability to build effective relationships and partnerships with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders including clinicians, with the capability to inspire confidence and influence with key partners. Flexible to respond to changing environments that may impact the timelines or scope of the work. Strong interpersonal, teamwork, organization and communication skills. Excellent ability to deal with highly complex, sensitive, and/or confidential issues in a professional manner. Critical thinking, option analysis, strong judgment and innovative problem-solving skills and a self-directed approach to managing a dynamic, high-volume workload. Functional experience with project management, change management and process improvement methodologies. Demonstrated leadership and management experience in working with/within cross functional teams. Proficiency with computer skills in Microsoft Office suite, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint and Adobe Reader/Acrobat. Functional experience with SharePoint, Microsoft Teams.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree in healthcare, business or healthcare administration preferred. Experience managing large scale projects and initiatives; specifically related to health care. Recent diverse (acute / community) clinical and/or managerial healthcare experience would be an asset.
