Senior Advisor - Safety & Compliance
Your Opportunity:
The Senior Advisor - Safety & Compliance is responsible for leading Central Zone’s Capital Management Department in the development, implementation, and maintenance of compliance-related initiatives relative to government legislation, industry-recognized standards and organizational policy. This individual works autonomously under direction from zone director and uses a high degree of resourcefulness and independent judgement in the execution of their duties. Is recognized as an expert in the field of workplace health and safety and has specialized skill in other core accountabilities. Is a trained and effective communicator and adept in establishing relationships and creating coalitions across department and program boundaries. Is accountable for leading, mentoring, and coaching departmental leaders in creating a culture of compliance with government and organizational requirements related to facility operations, maintenance, and capital projects. Is required to have expertise in and remain current in regulations, codes, standards, policies, and practices related to core programs, especially workplace health and safety, to ensure consistent development, review and implementation of procedures throughout the central zone. Has a portfolio of established business skills (business writing, gap analysis, process mapping, metrics, etc.) to aid in the development, execution, monitoring, and reporting of programs. Is flexible and adaptable to environmental diversities. Must have excellent communications and presentation skills. Must be well versed in utilizing computers and development of tracking systems and reports. Willing to travel to various rural sites as needed.
Description:
Core accountabilities include Workplace Health and Safety. Accountable for the development, implementation, maintenance, and auditing of a safety program for the Central Zone capital management departments. Works collaboratively with capital management Directors, Managers, and front-line staff to establish program details and monitors site compliance. Monitors that all capital management staff are adequately informed, trained and equipped to perform tasks safely. Must be current and conversant in key government and WHS documents including Alberta Occupational Health and Safety Handbook, Workplace Health & Safety Management System Standard. References these documents in the development, execution and maintenance of the zone safety program including Hazard Identification and Control (HIAC) and Field Level Risk Assessment (FLRA). Investigates root causes associated with incidents and takes corrective action where appropriate. Decisions are grounded in and guided by the organizations policies. May represent Capital Management on provincial committees to develop policy and create guidance documents for Capital Management as needed. Liaises with OHS and WHS provincial and municipal officers. Monitor compliance of the Electrical Safety Program.

A post-secondary degree or trade certification. A safety designation (NCSO, CRSP, CSO) or a commitment to obtain one. Five years of proven success in leading a team in the development, implementation, and auditing of a safety program. A valid 5th class Alberta driver’s license. Proficient in English.

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working in both an industrial and institutional environment relating to day to day facilities maintenance and capital projects is an asset.
