Occupational Health & Safety Certificate or Diploma with a minimum of three years of related experience with trades and/or with industries; or Journeyman Certification in a building trade and 5 years of direct involvement with an Occupational Health & Safety program in an industrial or other relevant environment; or National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO) certification with a minimum of three years of related experience with trades and/or with industries.
Additional Required Qualifications:
Acute awareness of the importance of safety and emergency preparedness in the workplace. Intellectual capacity to find, read, know, synthesize, apply, observe and teach in practical ways the requirements of numerous applicable policies, codes, standards and guidelines. Cognitive ability to generate, review and update departmental policies and procedures into a coherent, practicable and easy reference resource that remains consistent with applicable higher order policies. Instructional, leadership, planning, and communication skills that enable the coordination and provision of training and emergency preparedness drills within the department. Keen attention to detail and advanced writing ability. Excellent interpersonal skills. Must be capable of working at other Calgary zone sites or working irregular hours when required.
Preferred Qualifications:
Formal health and safety and or emergency preparedness training or experience within the public sector (federal or provincial) would be considered an asset. Proven leadership skills in a safety, emergency preparedness and training environment. Policy writing experience. Formal leadership training Familiarity with Alberta Occupational Health & Safety legislation. Familiarity with Alberta construction, fire, safety and other related codes.
