Respiratory Therapist II - Neonatal Transport
Your Opportunity:
The Neonatal Transport Registered Respiratory Therapist (TRRT) is responsible for the stabilization and transport of critically ill neonates, while possessing skills and knowledge to provide appropriate respiratory care. The TRRT requires the ability to plan, implement and evaluate diagnostic and therapeutic respiratory interventions during intrahospital and interhospital transport. As a member of the multidisciplinary transport team, the TRRT will assist with coordination of transport and collaboratively develop a plan of care for the safe transport of patients. The TRRT will require the ability to provide acute and delivery room resuscitation and intubation, ensuring continuing competency, participating actively in the education of the multidisciplinary team, family, and caregivers, and providing technical support for related transport equipment. When not required for transport duties, the TRRT will be available to assist with Respiratory Therapy department related functions and NICU respiratory care, including providing internal hospital transport, patient care, bedside assignments as required, and response to high-risk deliveries of newborns as a core member of the Neonatal RST (Resuscitation and Stabilization Team) in the NICU. The TRRT will function as a primary RST responder at expert level and may become eligible to perform advanced clinical competencies. The TRRT may be required to participate on Transport Team, NICU, and Respiratory Therapy related working groups and committees. The Transport RRT functions within the guidelines of the Respiratory Therapy, NICU, and Neonatal Transport Programs, while practicing in accordance with philosophies, policies, procedures, and standards of Stollery Children’s Hospital. This is a multisite position. The TRRT will have assignments at multiple sites (UAH & RAH).
Description:
As a Respiratory Therapist II, you will coordinate, monitor and assess clinical services in your assigned area. You will act as a clinical resource for daily operations, coordinating the work of therapy assessment and treatment in your service area, and assist in the development of clinical protocols. You will develop and implement respiratory therapy care plans and monitor the progress of patients (clients, residents) receiving advanced respiratory treatment. You will identify new equipment requirements, and establish and maintain adequate levels of supplies and materials for your area. You will be responsible for respiratory equipment, including but not limited to operation, procurement, maintenance, and quality assurance. You will participate in interprofessional patient, client or resident rounds, conferences and meetings where applicable.

Active or eligible registration with the College of Respiratory Therapists of Alberta (CRTA).
Additional Required Qualifications:Graduate of an accredited school of Respiratory Therapy. Current BLS certification. Current NRP certification. Minimum two years recent experience in level III neonatal critical care. Transport aircraft safety certification (upon hire). Formal institution based neonatal transport training course (upon hire). Formal institution based Neonatal Resuscitation and Stabilization Team (RST) training (upon hire). Critical Thinking, assessment, communication, and excellent interpersonal skills. Exercises good judgement, organizational, and leadership skills. Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and handle competing priorities. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively on a multi-disciplinary patient care team. Ability to work in aircraft and ground vehicle transport environment. Commitment to principles of family centered care. Excellent workplace attendance record.
Preferred Qualifications:Current neonatal transport and delivery room resuscitation experience. Current experience (> 2 years) with multiple neonatal populations, including congenital cardiac, surgical, non-surgical, and prematurity. Certification in PALS or ACORN. Experience participating on working groups, committees and quality councils to improve quality of patient care.
