AHS is looking for Anesthesia Respiratory Therapists to help make this initiative a success and are offering a funded educational opportunity to enhance your Perioperative Skills and Experience. This educational opportunity will assist you to gain knowledge in the areas of anesthesia care, maintenance and special procedures. Education and duties include airway and ventilation management, intubation, ABG procurement and interpretation, anesthesia equipment – functioning, trouble shooting and maintenance, administration of blood products, and the development of respiratory therapy care plans and monitoring the progress of patients receiving advanced respiratory treatment. Clinical placements may be within the Edmonton Zone at one or more of the following facilities: Royal Alexandra Hospital and/or University of Alberta Hospital. As an Anesthesia Respiratory Therapist, you are monitoring the patient at different phases of the perioperative experience. You will assist the anesthesiologist and the OR team to provide safe, effective and efficient care to patients. The scope of practice is a continuum ranging from basic to advanced clinical respiratory therapy activities using evidence-based measures and outcomes. Upon successful completion of the 6-month temporary position, there may be the opportunity to apply on vacant OR positions within the Edmonton Zone. *There are 4 RT positions available. These are multi-site roles UAH, RAH with a primary location. New Graduates are welcome to apply.
Description:
As a Respiratory Therapist II, you will coordinate, monitor and assess clinical services in your assigned area. You will act as a clinical resource for daily operations, coordinating the work of therapy assessment and treatment in your service area, and assist in the development of clinical protocols. You will develop and implement respiratory therapy care plans and monitor the progress of patients (clients, residents) receiving advanced respiratory treatment. You will identify new equipment requirements, and establish and maintain adequate levels of supplies and materials for your area. You will be responsible for respiratory equipment, including but not limited to operation, procurement, maintenance, and quality assurance. You will participate in interprofessional patient, client or resident rounds, conferences and meetings where applicable.

Active or eligible registration with the College and Association of Respiratory Therapists of Alberta (CARTA).
Additional Required Qualifications:A strong interest in working in a surgical suite (OR) environment. Commitment to the Anesthesia RT role in the perioperative environment upon completion of the position. Ability to travel to appropriate site/ campus and clinical practice areas. Ability to meet the physical demands of the position. Ability to perform consistently in a highly organized and rapid moving environment. Ability to collaborate within the expectations of a integrated team. Demonstrates advanced problem-solving skills integrating critical thinking and good judgment. Demonstrates communication skills promoting respect and team engagement.
Preferred Qualifications:Exposure/ experience in an operating room acute care setting (may include student placements).
