Respiratory Therapist I
Your Opportunity:
Located in Northeast Calgary, the Peter Lougheed Centre (PLC) is a 600+ bed acute care hospital that provides comprehensive inpatient and outpatient services and serves as the Vascular Centre for Southern Alberta, Southwestern Saskatchewan, and Southeastern British Columbia. Committed to Patient and Family Centred Care, PLC’s Respiratory Services department supports the ICU, Emergency Department, inpatient units, and a Level II NICU. The hospital is also home to Alberta’s only Chronic Ventilation Program, with respirologists specializing in areas such as Pulmonary Hypertension and Neuromuscular Disease. The successful candidate will provide clinical care, patient and staff education, equipment support, and contribute to quality improvement initiatives. All Registered Respiratory Therapists (RRTs) are expected to work across all service areas as operationally required, with daily assignments adjusted to meet departmental needs. This position will primarily support the NICU and inpatient wards, with potential coverage in the ICU and Emergency Department as required, and includes a schedule of 12-hour day and night shifts.
Description:
As a Respiratory Therapist I, you will assess patients (clients, resident), develop and implement respiratory therapy care plans and monitor their progress. You will be responsible for various diagnostic and therapeutic equipment and interventions. You will collaborate with various clinical teams and groups to enhance clinical outcomes. You will provide training and assist health care providers in the use and care of respiratory equipment as well as educate patients and their families regarding diseases, medications, equipment and treatments.

Active or eligible registration with the College of Respiratory Therapists of Alberta (CRTA).
Additional Required Qualifications:Graduate of an accredited Respiratory Therapy program with current BCLS-HCP certification. Current NRP certification is required, with current PALS, ACLS, and CRE certifications considered assets. A minimum of one year of independent clinical Respiratory Therapy experience in an acute care hospital setting within the last five years is required. This position involves significant physical demands, including prolonged periods of standing and walking, exposure to infectious diseases and other hazardous situations for which appropriate training is provided, assisting with the transport, lifting, and positioning of patients, and the ability to bend, lift, push, and pull equipment weighing up to 20lbs and occasionally exceeding 20 lbs.
Preferred Qualifications:Independent clinical Respiratory Therapy experience in a Level II or III NICU within the last five years is preferred. Additional qualifications include completion of preceptor training courses, participation in professional development courses within the last three years, and completion of orientation to the Peter Lougheed Centre (PLC) site.
