Respiratory Therapist I
Your Opportunity:
The Registered Respiratory Therapist I (RRT) provides leadership and expertise in the field of Respiratory Therapy and will work collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team to assist in the diagnosis and management of patients with cardiopulmonary and related disorders. You will actively participate in the education of patients, students, staff and physicians; contribute to department and/or service area process improvement; maintain a professional and accountable practice; advocate professionally and effectively for patients using the principles of patient and family centered care and provide technical support for all Respiratory Therapy equipment. All RRT positions at Rockyview General Hospital are expected to be able to work in all areas that Respiratory Services clinically supports if required. Daily service area assignments can be adjusted at the manager’s discretion to meet department and operational needs. Primary areas of assignment are wards and emergency.
Description:
As a Respiratory Therapist I, you will assess patients (clients, resident), develop and implement respiratory therapy care plans and monitor their progress. You will be responsible for various diagnostic and therapeutic equipment and interventions. You will collaborate with various clinical teams and groups to enhance clinical outcomes. You will provide training and assist health care providers in the use and care of respiratory equipment as well as educate patients and their families regarding diseases, medications, equipment and treatments.

Active or eligible registration with the College and Association of Respiratory Therapists of Alberta (CARTA).
Additional Required Qualifications:A demonstrated pattern of professional development; display of interpersonal, communication, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills; ability to manage competing priorities, be self-directed, exercise independent decision-making and effectively resolve conflict; and promotion of a healthy, respectful, and safe work environment are required. Graduate of an accredited school of Respiratory Therapy. Current BLS certification including expiration date. Minimum 2-year independent clinical Respiratory Therapy experience within the last 3 years in an acute care hospital setting. This RRT position includes the following physical requirements: being on one's feet for extended periods (including walking/standing), exposure to infectious diseases, and hazardous situations for which they are trained; being able to assist in transporting, lifting and positioning of patients; be able to bend, lift, push, and pull equipment up to 20lbs.
Preferred Qualifications:Independent RRT acute care experience in the last 3 years in ICU, ER, Wards, NICU, Outreach. NRP/PALS/ACLS/CRE/CTE/CAE certification or instructor. Art line certified. Professional development courses within the last 2 years. Tobacco reduction training. Participation in a healthcare committee or working group. Health-related degree. CSRT membership. Formal preceptor training. Charge experience. RGH site orientation.
