Your Opportunity:

The COPD Self Initiative Team (CSI) at the Royal Alexandra Hospital (RAH) is looking for a keen person to join the already well-developed team. RAH is one of Alberta’s largest and longest-serving hospitals. Centrally located in Edmonton’s downtown core, the RAH serves a diverse community, including some of our province’s most vulnerable populations. They operate 882 beds and care for approximately 450,000 patients annually. The RAH is home to the Lois Hole Hospital for Women and Women's Health Centre, the Regional Eye Centre, and the Aboriginal Health program, in addition to a wide range of child, adult and geriatric programs and services. You will be working as part of the CSI team, and work with interprofessional teams throughout the units. In this role, you will assess patients, develop, and implement RT care plans and monitor their progress. You will collaborate with various clinical teams and groups to enhance clinical outcomes. You will educate patients and their families regarding diseases, medications, equipment, and treatments. To be successful in this position, you will have well developed leadership skills and experience, as well as excellent communication skills. Working closely with patients, your team and physicians will be an important aspect of this position, strong interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships will be integral to your success. As part of the CSI team your responsibilities would include providing targeted patient education regarding prevention, treatment, and self-management strategies. Optimize medical therapies using COPD best practice guidelines (CTS and GOLD). Optimize patient quality of life. Optimize health status through ongoing assessment with inter-professional team. Facilitate appropriate follow-up and community referrals. Decrease health care system utilization.

Description:

As a Respiratory Therapist I, you will assess patients (clients, resident), develop and implement respiratory therapy care plans and monitor their progress. You will be responsible for various diagnostic and therapeutic equipment and interventions. You will collaborate with various clinical teams and groups to enhance clinical outcomes. You will provide training and assist health care providers in the use and care of respiratory equipment as well as educate patients and their families regarding diseases, medications, equipment and treatments.

Required Qualifications:

Active or eligible registration with the College and Association of Respiratory Therapists of Alberta (CARTA).

Additional Required Qualifications:

The successful candidate must be a graduate from a recognized School of Respiratory Therapy and eligible to write, or have passed, the National Respiratory Certification Exam as administered by the Canadian Board for Respiratory Care (CBRC). Maintaining current active registration in good standing with CRTA throughout the duration of employment. Maintaining current basic life support (BLS-HCP) certification and providing proof of active certification annually. Your quality of work must meet departmental and organizational expectations. You must demonstrate competency in all phases of the job, adaptability to new procedures and information, be current in respiratory therapy advances and changes in department practices, policies and procedures. Demonstrated clarity in your communication, organization and consistency of ideas, both verbally and written, including clinical documentation, is required. You must be a highly motivated, confident, enthusiastic individual with a positive attitude whose work aligns with AHS Values. You act quickly and decisively using critical thinking and problem-solving skills. You utilize strong judgment by analyzing facts, considering the impact, and arriving at a sound conclusion, seeking counsel when appropriate. You work independently and as a part of the team creating effective interpersonal working relationships with peers and other caregivers. You are a reliable worker who uses time effectively, able to prioritize and complete assigned tasks.

Preferred Qualifications:

Current acute care experience in a tertiary teaching hospital,precept students,involved in quality initiatives,practice change/committee.Certified in ALS,Artline/IV Insert, Intubation,current Rapid Response Team member.Encouraged to be a Certified RRT Educator/enrolled in COPD Educator,Asthma Educator,Chronic Disease Mgmt courses,expected to complete CRE within 1 yr of position start.Certified as a Tobacco Educator/apply in relevant courses,AB Quits Learning Series/Chronic Disease Mgmt Educator.
