Your Opportunity:

In collaboration with an inter-disciplinary team, the Registered Respiratory Therapist I is dedicated to the assessment, diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation and education of infants, children and youth with cardiopulmonary conditions. You will be involved in the diagnostic and therapeutic care of patients with respiratory diseases, respiratory failure and associated medical and/or surgical problems. Working in a fast-paced environment, you will be responsible for developing, implementing and following up on respiratory care plans, performing respiratory care procedures and training students. Your quality of work must meet departmental and organizational expectations. You must demonstrate competency in all phases of the job, adaptability to new procedures and information, be current in respiratory therapy initiatives and ongoing changes in department practices, policies and procedures. Demonstrated clarity in your communication, organization and consistency of ideas, both verbally and written, including clinical documentation, is required. You must be a highly motivated, confident, and enthusiastic individual with a positive attitude, aligning with AHS Values. You must be able to act quickly and decisively using critical thinking and problem-solving skills. You must work independently and as a part of the team creating strong, effective interpersonal working relationships with peers and other caregivers. You are required to be a reliable worker who uses time effectively and is able to prioritize and complete assigned tasks. This is a multisite position with the Stollery Children’s Hospital. The incumbent will start at one of the University of Alberta Hospital or Royal Alexandra Hospital sites, but may be required to work at both sites in future. Orientation will be offered to applicable neonatal and/or pediatric areas or sites as required.

Description:

As a Respiratory Therapist I, you will assess patients (clients, resident), develop and implement respiratory therapy care plans and monitor their progress. You will be responsible for various diagnostic and therapeutic equipment and interventions. You will collaborate with various clinical teams and groups to enhance clinical outcomes. You will provide training and assist health care providers in the use and care of respiratory equipment as well as educate patients and their families regarding diseases, medications, equipment and treatments.

Required Qualifications:

Active or eligible registration with the College and Association of Respiratory Therapists of Alberta (CARTA).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Graduation from a recognized School of Respiratory Therapy is required. Current valid CARTA practice permit is required (a provisional practice permit is required for graduate RTs who are eligible but have not written the National Respiratory Certification exam). The incumbent must have passed or be eligible to write the National Respiratory Certification Exam as administered by the Canadian Board for Respiratory Care (CBRC). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support- Healthcare Provider (BCLS-HCP) required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Preference given to Respiratory Therapists or Respiratory Therapy graduates with neonatal and pediatric experience. CSRT membership, NRP, PALS. Participation on committees and experience related to developing quality initiatives and implementing changes in practice.
