Completion of an accredited Psychiatric nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of Alberta (CRPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification. If you have not practiced as a Registered Psychiatric Nurse within the last five (5) years, you must complete the following free courses: CRNA Medication Management (Chapters 1-4), available at https://connect.nurses.ab.ca/home/learning-and-development/learning-modules/ and the NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification, available at https://courses.nextgenu.org/course/view.php?id=271.
Additional Required Qualifications:You will be physically capable of carrying out duties of this position. This is physically demanding position that requires the RN/RPN to assist with ADL’s including toileting, bathing, dressing, and transferring, re-positioning, escorting patients to and from programs, managing behavioural patients as a result of their brain injury among other duties. Complex moderate to severe brain injury patients may be very dependent at time for care needs. Leadership, observation, strong communication skills, a positive attitude and the ability to work effectively in a psychiatric and rehabilitation setting are essential.
Preferred Qualifications:Six or more months experience in working in neurology, with stroke and brain injured patients is desired. Demonstrated excellent assessment, organizational and patient care skills. Ability to communicate findings in a concise and accurate manner. Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
