Completion of an accredited Psychiatric nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of Alberta (CRPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). Additional Required Qualifications:2 years of recent experience in an Adult Addiction/ Mental Health nursing role. Working knowledge of relevant legislation is required, including the Alberta Mental Health Act and the Health Information Act. Working knowledge of psychotropic medications and psychopathology. Working knowledge of non-violent crisis de-escalation strategies/techniques to assist with complex behavioral needs. Working knowledge of appropriate restraint use (chemical, physical, mechanical, and environmental). Working knowledge and understanding of the principles of trauma-informed care. This position has been identified and is anticipated to transition to Recovery Alberta effective September 1, 2024. In accordance with the transition letter of understanding with UNA, current employees under the UNA Collective Agreement who accept an employment offer, issued after July 1, 2024, will not have any rights under Article 15: Layoff and Recall.
Preferred Qualifications:Preference will be given to candidates who have experience in working with clients with concurrent disorders. Motivational interviewing skills and the ability to confidently utilize de-escalation strategies would be considered a strength. Communication skills to engage with patients that have varied levels of cognitive functioning would be considered an asset.
