Your Opportunity:
The Unit 4E4 Registered Nurse (RN) reports to the Unit Manager – Pediatric Medicine. Unit 4E4 is a 25‑bed pediatric inpatient unit providing care to patients up to 18 years of age. The unit supports a diverse pediatric population, including general pediatric medicine, respirology, neurology, nephrology, mental health, and overflow from other pediatric specialty programs requiring inpatient care. As a member of the multidisciplinary team, the 4E4 RN- provides leadership in the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care for the mentioned populations under both, University of Alberta Hospital (UAH) and Stollery Children’s Hospital, policies, and procedures. The RN practices to full scope as defined by CARNA. Within the Medicine Program at the Stollery, there are opportunities for professional growth, which include participation in unit-based safety/education sessions, senior skill certifications, unit quality councils, as well as broader AHS initiatives. Staff within the Medicine Program will be cross trained to support all pediatric medicine units and other pediatric inpatient units within the Stollery. The RN provides safe, evidence‑informed, and family‑centered care while supporting patient advocacy, education, and collaboration with patients and families. Responsibilities include care coordination, medication administration, clinical documentation, participation in interdisciplinary communication, and responding appropriately to changes in patient condition. The RN also contributes to quality improvement and patient safety initiatives.
Description:
As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit holders will be paid $40.76 to $55.79 per hour. Upon obtaining a full practice permit, the rate of pay will be adjusted to the applicable Registered Nurse rate in accordance with UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii), as applicable.

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification. If you have not practiced as a Registered Nurse within the last five (5) years, you must complete the following free courses: CRNA Medication Management (Chapters 1-4), available at https://connect.nurses.ab.ca/home/learning-and-development/learning-modules/ and the NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification, available at https://courses.nextgenu.org/course/view.php?id=271.
Additional Required Qualifications:Successfully pass the Stollery PEARS course (Pediatric Emergency Assessment, Recognition and Stabilization Course), completed in orientation. Successfully pass the Stollery Medication Administration exam (pass 90%). Exceptional interpersonal communication skills. Excellent written and verbal communication. Demonstrated initiative, accountability, problem-solving, organizational skills, and effective time management. Strong decision-making, assessment, and critical thinking skills. Ability to adapt and work within a fast-paced, and time-sensitive environment with competing responsibilities.
Preferred Qualifications:Experience with children with tracheostomies and medically fragile patient populations is considered an asset. Connect Care training and Charge Care experience are an asset.
