We have an exciting opportunity for a Registered Nurse/Registered Psychiatric Nurse who will have opportunity to work within a dynamic environment that is designed to meet the needs of individuals who present with a combination of dementia syndrome and complex behavioral issues. The RN position will be based out of the Enhanced Care Unit, Type A Continuing Care Home; however, it may involve working on units at Mackenzie Place when required. Reporting to the Care Manager, you will play a key role in clinical practice. This allowance is non-pensionable and is payable on an hourly basis for all hours paid at the basic rate of pay.

Description:

As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit holders will be paid $40.76 to $55.79 per hour. Upon obtaining a full practice permit, the rate of pay will be adjusted to the applicable Registered Nurse rate in accordance with UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii), as applicable.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification. If you have not practiced as a Registered Nurse within the past five (5) years, completion of the following free courses is required prior to employment: CRNA Medication Management (Chapters 1-4): https://connect.nurses.ab.ca/home/learning-and-development/learning-modules NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification: https://courses.nextgenu.org/course/view.php?id=271.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Depth and breadth of nursing knowledge and complex reasoning reflective of level of education. Strong communication skills utilizing a variety of modalities (verbal, written, active listening) and ability to adapt communication style to meet the needs of specific residents, relay resident information to primary health care provider(s), on and off-site, in a timely, concise, accurate manner. Assessment skills to recognize and respond appropriately to changes in resident physical, emotional, psychological status. Effectively uses information and communication technology to improve inter-professional person-centered care. Complex reasoning skills reflective of level of education to make decisions in strenuous and changing environments by compiling information from multiple sources. Sound judgment. Displays an attitude that conveys respect and dignity of all persons. Independent and shared accountability in a just culture. Compassionate and caring attitude. Contributes to the quality improvement process by working with others to identify and implement areas for improvement and improved service delivery and resident outcomes.

Preferred Qualifications:

Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing or Psychiatric Nursing. Equivalent combinations of education & experience may be considered. Minimum 2 years clinical experience applicable to the service area(s). Previous experience performing comprehensive assessments utilizing the RAI suite of tools. CNA Certification in Gerontological Nursing. Supportive Pathways PIECES training. Previous experience in the assignment of care and supervision of unregulated health providers.
