Your Opportunity:

We have an exciting position in our program for a Registered Nurse (RN). The RN works to provide Hemodialysis treatment to patients in collaboration with the multidisciplinary health care team. The RN delivers comprehensive patient and family centered care to acute and chronic renal patients. The RN practices within the philosophy and guidelines of the Alberta Kidney Care – North (AKC-N) to provide leadership, critical thinking, clinical judgment, assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care for the purpose of promoting, maintaining, or restoring health, preventing illness, injury, and disability to the renal patient. The RN practices nursing care according to Hemodialysis Nursing Specialty Scope of Practice, regulating body, clinical policies, and nursing standards. The RN demonstrates a professional demeanor, pursues regular professional development opportunities, and maintains professional designation. The RN assumes unit leadership and charge responsibilities to support all levels of the multidisciplinary team as per Unit Manager Direction. As a casual employee (on a call-in basis), you will not have a regular schedule and there will be no minimum hours guaranteed for any week or month. This position is based in Fort McMurray Hemodialysis. In addition to a competitive rate of pay, AHS currently has a Fort McMurray Allowance in place to an annual maximum of $12,480. This allowance is non-pensionable and is payable on an hourly basis for all hours paid at the basic rate of pay.

Description:

As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit Holders shall be paid $35.87/hour - $43.82/hour. Upon being entered into the register of Registered Nurses, the rate of pay shall be adjusted to the rate of pay applicable to a Registered Nurse in accordance with AHS/UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii) as applicable. Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). If you have not practiced as a Registered Nurse within the last five (5) years, completion of the following free courses is required: CRNA Medication Management - Chapters 1 - 4 (https://connect.nurses.ab.ca/home/%2Flearning-and-development%2Flearning-modules%2F) and the NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification (https://courses.nextgenu.org/course/view.php?id=271#section-0)

Additional Required Qualifications:

Charge nurse experience required. Demonstrate critical thinking, problem solving, and decision-making abilities required. Basic computer skills required. Successful candidate must be able to lift 40 lbs. (18kg). Must be able to attend Hemodialysis training in Edmonton or Red Deer. Hemodialysis Training is held in Edmonton or Red Deer depending on classroom/instructor availability. The training is an intensive 4-week full time schedule with an additional 2 weeks of full-time buddy shifts. A passing mark of 80% on the final exam and satisfactory performance during clinical component is required to move on to 2 weeks full time buddy shifts. Upon successful completion of the orientation the RN will be able to proceed to the unit specific orientation - 2 weeks of buddy shifts as assigned by the Unit Manager. Required to attend 1-day mandatory post orientation (3 Months Post) in person for Edmonton zone employees and via zoom for outside of the Edmonton Zone employees.

Preferred Qualifications:

Minimum 1-2 years recent Med-Surgical Nursing experience is preferred. Recent acute and chronic Hemodialysis and or nephrology nursing experience is an asset. Demonstrated effective time management and organizational skills. Demonstrated knowledge of case management is an asset.
