Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). If you have not practiced as a Registered Nurse within the last five (5) years, completion of the following free courses is required: CRNA Medication Management - Chapters 1 - 4 (https://connect.nurses.ab.ca/home/%2Flearning-and-development%2Flearning-modules%2F) and the NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification (https://courses.nextgenu.org/course/view.php?id=271#section-0)
Additional Required Qualifications:Demonstrated knowledge of case management. Demonstrated effective time-management and organizational skills. Demonstrated critical thinking, problem solving, and decision-making abilities. Must be able to provide direction to other health care workers. Basic computer skills required. Ability to work independently and in conjunction with other team members. Demonstrated ability to adapt quickly to a changing and fluctuating workload. Demonstrated initiative, accountability, interpersonal and communication skills. Must be able to lift 40lbs (18kg). The AKC-N program requires candidates to complete/pass hemodialysis training. Hemodialysis training is held in Edmonton or Red Deer depending on availability. Hemodialysis orientation will take 6 weeks: 4 weeks on-unit training and 2 weeks of buddy shifts (or equivalent hours). A passing mark of 80% on the final exam and satisfactory performance during the clinical component is required to move on to buddy shifts. Required to attend 1-day mandatory in-person post-orientation (3 Months post) for Edmonton zone employees and via Zoom for employees outside of the Edmonton zone.
Preferred Qualifications:Candidates with previous experience will be required to complete hemodialysis training as per manager/educator discretion. Preference will be given to candidates with minimum 1 year medical-surgical nursing experience within the last 2 years. Recent experience in acute and chronic hemodialysis, nephrology nursing.
